I started where I work at 17 years old, 22 years later I'm still there and, for the most part I'm happy. Three more years and I'll be locked in for lifetime health and dental care. I'm not looking to go anywhere and, I'm too young to think about retiring.

Good luck with the new job, because you'll need it. I've been an accountant since the summer of 2003. Before that, I dealt blackjack and roulette for a couple of casinos while I went to college. Which was the better job? Dealing. The office environment sucks especially if you're stuck with people with the typical boring personalities--you know, the 50+ year old senior citizen who always talks about the good old days, the middle age woman who can't stop talking about her kids, the office jester who tries too hard to be funny, etc. All of these people will drag you down to earth. The best office environment would be working in an empty building with only email as the sole form of communication.

Well, maybe it's just bad luck with the people I know, because almost everyone I know that's graduated college within the last 5-8 years is not at their first job anymore. Most of them either got laid off, had to get new jobs to get higher pay or move up, or completely changed their career. Maybe it's still possible to stay with a company long term, but it's much less common then it was 20+ years ago.

That might also be because MOST college students dont know what they want to do when they get out...so they test the waters with different jobs.

Thats like with some people I know and graduated with....

Me: "What you major in?"

Misc Student: "Computer Science"

Me: "Oh, so where you working now?"

Misc Student: "I cut down trees!"

K, congrats on your new job. NJM is known in some circles as 'nazi insurance'. They run a very tight ship - but that is the primary reason for their success. You will find out quickly do not be late and to follow their protocols to the 'T'. Up until a year or so ago they had a bell to signal start & end of lunch (or something along those lines). LOL

But you will also find a lot of long timers there, and they have never had layoffs. So it has a lot of upside!

Congrats! Close to home and hopefully you can get discounted insurance. Sounds like a good deal for you. Your next car will be here before you know it!

Nice! I'll have my 25 in when I'm 47, but by then my son will be looking at colleges (Provided I raise him right) so I'll probably stick it out until he graduates.

No. At least when I was there they didn't offer discounts to employees. They would take your NJM insurance payments straight out of your check if you wanted though.

It gives you an NJBIA number.....but if you have tickets in the last 3 years, they will still put you under NJ Re-Insurance at a much higher rate.

I think anyone will be alright as long as they stay single and childless. Otherwise, you might as well give yourself a lethal injection.
