People have other things to take care of during the weekend, if it isn't planned early enough in the week it's difficult to do anything about it. And then telling everyone that we are f'ed up because most people had other plans they couldn't get out of last minute is not conducive to having people show up next time.

It was our 1st anniversary yesterday and we were in VT relaxing and then driving through the thunderstorms through NY. Besides, since we had minimal cell service and no cable/internet where we stayed (a cabin near Mt Snow a coworker of mine owns), we had no idea about it.

Believe it or not, but I am a pretty open minded person. But past track records have shut my mind to this, other than sticking to my guns about people being f'd up. I have had many get togethers in the past, and have given weeks, and sometimes months, advance notice. And I always got a lot of lip service and false promises about people who were going to be there. And of course the people didn't show up. I pretty much stopped having monthly meets for unstablebobgable.com, because it was pretty much just a waste of my time due to lack of support. My core guys that would show up were my local buddies who I see on a regular basis anyways. There are over 1600 members on this board, and if you cut to the chase only ONE showed up yesterday. And that was Kirk. [Number 2].
One outa 1600 ain't very good statistics. I'm not counting Fat Brain [BlkbrdWS6], because he is my right hand man and is there for me 24-7, and not just to party. So, add in one of my AMC guys, and a guy who stopped in off the street. And there is the big four. So, sorry, but I'm not impressed with the numbers. I guess I'm just trying to relive the glory days when there would be a buncha beer, a buncha guys turning wrenches and helping each other out, rock and roll blasting, and people not being so f'd up.

Pampered-Z 06-09-2008 11:45 AM

If I was local you know you could have counted on me. But I'm working the side job 150 miles from you...

LS1Hawk 06-09-2008 11:57 AM

I read your post and thought it was pretty cool that it was an open invitation for anyone who was interested. I would have been totally down for going, but with the way gas prices are right now, I wasn't really feeling a drive down to central NJ.

X2 - but you know i wouldn't show up anyway.

seriously, though, i could have used a break from the family and the upheaval that was caused recently. it's not enough that the old guy is dying, but there are certain family members that MUST fight no matter what. it's been a regular three ringer over here, bob. clowns and all.

JL8Jeff 06-09-2008 12:49 PM

It was too last minute for most people to change plans. Add the heat and most people are scared away immediately. Gotta give us a little more lead time. I need to work on both cars and the boat motor and it wasn't exactly a good weekend for doing any of that.

79CamaroDiva 06-09-2008 02:10 PM

you know i'm no good for weekends. work pwns me

PolarBear 06-09-2008 02:23 PM

I was out late the night before then I had to paint my friends car and I dont get on the boards very much now. After Carlisle in 2 weeks I should be around more especially on Sunday's. PM me next time you need a hand, if I can help.

Jersyboyy 06-09-2008 03:29 PM

Well lets all make it up to bob and drink some beers while we work on my car in a FEW WEEKS. (Should be plenty of time for atleast 5 of you guys to clear your schedules, their is a post in the lounge area with details). ;)

Did you ever say you'd be somewhere and something else came up and you didn't go? Is it really that unfeasible that people's plans do change, where something more important comes up? Yes - there are things more important than UBG, sorry, it had to be said.

There may be 1800 members, but only 300 are active. Of that, I"m willing to bet nearly half live too far, especially with the gas prices. Another portion of members are too young. Another portion work on the weekends. Another portion rarely have a weekend to themselves. Others have kids they can't leave alone, or sports or other functions to attend. You get the point. In the end, maybe only 50 have any possibly of coming. Then it's a matter of seeing the post, knowing where you live, liking you to even want to hang out, and a number of other factors.

Look at the monthly meets for the board. Of those 300 active members, maybe 20 - 30 max come to any given meet. And those are with a lot of planning ahead of time. And those meets have some people that say they are coming and can't for some other reason.

People are not f'ed up. You are assuming a board with 1800 members (200 active) would drop everything and run to your house for a meet with little more than 24 hours notice. Calling people f'ed up is a sure fire way to get them to come the next time, right? [/sarcasm] Personally, I'm offended that you would expect myself and my husband, as well as the rest of this board, to drop everything and come to hang out with you with very little notice, assuming everyone had seen the post and had the free time to drop by.

79CamaroDiva 06-09-2008 06:55 PM

gas prices, real jobs and a little maturity have turned a lot of people on this board who used to be carefree partiers into  responsible adults who aren't so carefree with the miles they put on their car. we're a far cry away from where we were 2 summers ago where i would have 20 or so people show up at my house on a wed night for a BBQ, and even more show up at my apartment in new brunswick. a lot of us have grown up, and a lot of us are hurt by gas prices that have doubled in that time.

No, there are not things more important than ubg. Do you have a job? Do you take care of a family? Do you pay your bills? If you do those things, doesn't that make your priorites # 1 to you? Well, I learned a long time ago that the only person that is gonna take care of ME is ME! So, yeah, I am the VIP in my world. As we say in racing: Second place is the first place of LOSERS!

The post had my addy and my phone #. What other info should I give? And as I stated before, this was just another episode in a long list of stiffs. There are people here who live w/in God damn walking distance of my house and are nothing but mouth breathers.

[Look at the monthly meets for the board. Of those 300 active members, maybe 20 - 30 max come to any given meet. And those are with a lot of planning ahead of time. And those meets have some people that say they are coming and can't for some other reason.]

Yeah, I know all about people giving lip service and playing ghost when it's time to show. But that is Justin and Tim's bag to deal with. And if they dealt with it by canceling all meets due to lack of interest, people who never put any time in would jaw break about that, too.

Um, now lemme get this straight: YOU are OFFENDED that I invited people [of which were You, Jim, and whoever else ya wanted to bring] over to my house to party on my dime? What is this, are we playing Bizarro world, where everything is the opposite of reason? If being invited to party offends you, I'd hate to see what you'd do to the Publisher's Clearinghouse folks if they showed up on your doorstep w/ a BIG check for ya. What would ya do, mow 'em down w/ an uzi? And they call ME unstable! lol Note to self: yup, peeps still b f'd up.

But, you are right. I've learned my lesson. NO MORE MR NICE GUY for ubg. Nice guys finish LAST, and ubg is a WINNER! Tonight when I shave my head I'm gonna carve a "666" in my forehead. And tomorrow, WATCH OUT WORLD! I'm gonna start by making old ladies cross the street WHEN THEY DON'T WANNA CROSS THE STREET! I'm gonna go to an Over Eaters
Anonymous meeting and order in a buncha loaded Domino's pizzas! I'm gonna do **** that makes Charlie Manson look like Mr Rogers! And hey, **** on Wheels, since you started this brawl, here's something really foul just for you. I hope you enjoy it! :-x

GIMME A "B"! "B" is for BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! from ya'll! Wow, I'm glad I don't have to pay over 4 bux a gallon for gas, don't have to pay a morgage, don't have to pay 13 grand a year in taxes, don't have to pay off a 15 g bathroom remodeling jobby, don't have to look for a part time job to make ends meet, don't have to pay off trying to restore 2 cars, don't have to make a car payment, don't have to pay for food, clothing, utilities, doctor and dentist bills, and didn't shell out 50 bux for beer that nobody wanted to come by to drink...BUT WAIT! I DO have to DO all those things. WOW! Now I see the light! Just like all you stiffs I guess I can't even afford to drink with me!

LTb1ow 06-10-2008 06:42 AM

Yes, you are the most important person...to you! In my world, James and I are the most important to me...in Justin's world, he, his wife, and his 9 month old are the most important people to him...etc etc, but you are not the most important thing to us, hence our priorities being somewhere else. That means working, or spending time at home on our anniversary, caring for the children/parents, etc etc. Hence things coming up and people not being able to come like they originally thought they would.

Sure, the post had your info. Great. Does that mean everyone automatically knows exactly where you live? Even with mapquest, google earth, and a bunch of nifty technology, many people are still navigationally challenged, and usually avoid driving somewhere they don't know how to get to unless with someone. But, the point is, even if they know where you live or could figure out how to get there, there a TON of other factors, including whether they even like you, that dictate whether they will show up.

**** happens. Emergencies come up. Real life gets in the way. I can see if it's the same people over and over that say they'll go then don't, but I don't think that is the case the majority of the time.

No, I think it's wonderful you were willing to have people, whether you knew them or not, over to your house to party on your dime. I've had a few of these myself back when I lived at my dad's and he'd go away for the weekend. But I was happy with whoever showed up, even if only 1 or 30 people did. I didn't get mad at people because they didn't come. I'm offended that you EXPECTED more than 4 people to come...based on the response in the original thread, not many people were planning to join you anyway (of the 7 posts in the thread, 3 were yours, leaving 4 people who responded, all saying no). I"m offended you wanted expected ANYONE there, let alone the 4 people who did come.

I didn't start any brawl. I just stated what I saw and how I felt about what you said.

And while I"m at it, I'll respond to this too...

Yes, you have to do all of that too. Good for you. Except you didn't have to pay the gas bill to drive to YOUR house, since, well, you live there already. And, well, you weren't working that day obviously, since, well, you wanted to party. Others did have to work to pay the bills. AND, you didn't HAVE to buy $50 worth of beer...you could have bought a little bit, and if you needed more, bought more, or had people bring it. But, you chose to buy $50 worth, and then you get mad no one showed up. And, you didn't have something else come up preventing you from partying, like maybe some others did.

I could go on and on about every single part of the post. But I'm done. And unless compelled, I'm done posting in this thread.

Dude, the bottom line is that I come from a different era. I've drank with every conceivable type of person imaginable, from shoeless rednecks who were pouring me some shine they made themselves, to millionaires who had the booze flown in special that day. And I never **** on those people when they were kind enough to ask me to toss back a glass with 'em. But in the new BIZARRO world I'm f'n clueless...*shrug*

NastyEllEssWon 06-10-2008 11:43 PM

in the new bizarro world people dont toss back beers with random unknown people off the internet. i also come from a very diverse background...ive grown up dirt poor, lived in san jose cali rich as hell for 3 years, only to come back to nj with what i had left. i didnt see any post about you or your beers...even if i had i probably wouldnt have come anyway seeing as i had no idea who the hell you are....but people are busy and cant drop everything to show up....i wont drink a beer or a sip of alcohol if im driving....this thread fails

edit:: i also dont see how anyone pooped on you by not coming?
people are busy...time is money...if you offer people the money they would miss if they came to your house instead of work id bet everyone on this site would show up.
