Can I just spray nightshade over the clearcoat or will I have to 1000 grit it before

Or would it get darker if I clear coat more

Tru2Chevy 07-13-2008 08:44 PM

I would hit it with the sandpaper first

yeah just wetsand it with even 2000 grit. you will see the clear come off. i'd do maybe 2-3 light passes. otherwise it will be overkill during the day.

if you want it to look nice and shiny like taillights usually are, give it a few coats. i only did one maybe two cause i dig the flatter look.

Jam 07-14-2008 10:56 AM

yeah. your car looks sick with less clear tails.

Slow96LT1 07-14-2008 11:44 AM

i use the vht nightshade on my car i put 3 coat and they are black then i let it cure overnight and put 6 coat of clear on it then wet sand and buff and they look just like the car when i get in i will post up some photo

yeah it would be nice if you posted up a pic
I'm currently taping off the reverse lights and wet sanding my previous clear coat with 2000Grit. then I'll lay down 1 more coat and I'll clear it a few times.

sweetbmxrider 07-14-2008 01:18 PM

do one, let it get tacky, hold it to some light and decide if its what you want. better to get what you desire this time then doing it again.

Jam 07-14-2008 01:43 PM

I just put one more coat . should be fine.

I like the how the white is separated, but personally I would put a layer over the white as well. I'm aiming for the gloss look for my car.

I agree. I just got done with clear coating. I was going to go with the flat finish like sweetbmx was telling me.but I sprayed too much and ended up having to make it entirely glossy looking. It looks surprisingly good. I don't think I'll put clear coat on the reverse lights though; it's more distinguished as separate.

sweetbmxrider 07-18-2008 02:59 PM

shortieee 07-18-2008 03:13 PM

Yep. He did an awesome job too. He did the same thing to the owner of my ex's notch's car - With the taillights nd headlights. Came out awesome!

I never had the chance to get mine done, because you know - People can't drive. But yeah, I might have him do it to my explorer just for ****s nd giggles.

Jam 07-18-2008 04:38 PM
