new TA will never happen because pontiac wants to be more like the European companies, hence the solstice and G8 which is like a BMW. I have a car and driver around the shop somewhere with an interview of the VP of pontiac and was asked if the firebird would come back since the camaro is... and he said "we want to have a European influences on our new cars... so no

I agree. In a few of my High Performance Pontiac magazines, any interviews with GM where the Firebird or GTO is brought up it is quickly shot down. Its like Firebird is a bad word over there. Oh well, at least we get the Camaro back in 6 months.

wow. old news.

and pontiac in the tank? old news, too. sorry, TA lovers. only in your dreams. pontiac is going the way of oldsmobile. and if buick doesn't continue to pull their weight, they'll get axed, too. then it will just be chevy and saturn and cadillac. might as well get rid of the definitive names and call the product GM for simplicity.

On a similar note, I think Ford is killing off Mercury in 2010.

I love Pontiac, but like I stated when I first heard this, Pontiac will never be able to compete with BMW. Drive a 330i, then go drive a G6. Then try and contain your hysterical laughter.

That makes sense. The only difference is that Mercury's are 5k more than Ford's and only get one extra year and 12k miles on the factory warranty. Thats it.

Buick isn't a huge seller in the US, but they sell very well overseas. One of the top selling brands in China IIRC.

That information was leaked by an insider to us. Dealers will be notified around 2011-2012.
GM will not announce anything till that time. Right now, the Pontiac, Buick and GMC dealers are finally coming together. What will happen to that empty space, GM will come up with at that time.

why tank pontiac....saturn fares way worse.

Pontiac is the only GM NA division that has no global ties.
Chevy is world wide
Caddy is world wide
Saturn is Opel/Vaux
Buick is world wide
Saab is world wide

GMC is just now starting in the middle east and is the 2nd best selling and most profitable division of GM.

Outside of the G8, there is no other Pontiac that is sold world wide.
That was the choice the BOD made about a month ago

Buick sells like gangbusters in China, and with its recent product infusion, should turn around here in the US.

Pontiac wanted to be a poor mans BMW, not directly compete with BMW.
The G6 is not trying to be a 325i, but built its performance image off the same ideas of a total package.
They do sometimes cross paths, G8/G8 GT vs 530/550i, Solstce/GXP vs Z4/ M roadster/coupe, but were never designed to complete directly towards one another.
Pontiac does not want ot be a European brand, that is Saturn's job. Pontiac just wanted to be GM's performance brand, but its just not working out.

Its THE #1 brand in China. VW #2. Chevy is also climbing fast in China and India as well as Eastern Europe. Caddy also has some different looks over in China such as the SLS, a stretched and much more luxurious version of the STS sold here.

From the begining GM said there would not be a new Firebird, because GM needs to sell 100k per year to keep the platform (zeta) alive. GM planned to produce the Camaro and Monte Carlo for Chevy and Pontiac would have the GTO and G8.

Uh oh GM...

GM's Car Sales Slide in China
Toyota, Honda Zoom Ahead as Buyers Concentrate on Fuel Economy, Quality

BEIJING -- General Motors Corp., which regards China as one of its few bright spots as the U.S. auto market slides, is seeing its star dim among Chinese passenger-car buyers.

The Detroit auto maker -- long China's No. 2 car seller after Germany's Volkswagen AG -- is being outsold this year in the passenger car market by Toyota Motor Corp., according to J.D. Power and Associates.........

Seems strange though. The Chinese people by and large loath Japan.

BigAls87Z28 09-28-2008 11:46 AM

I have always read that Buick trades for #1 with VW.
I am also surprised by Japan's surge in China. Then again, Ive seen a lot of jews in Benz's and BMW's. So I guess time heals...

ins0mnia24 09-28-2008 12:58 PM

Wow, just when Pontiac is finally starting to have some cool products on the market which even had me looking at their stuff instead of what Chevy has to offer rightnow..

BigAls87Z28 09-28-2008 02:52 PM

Really, Pontiac has the G8 over any other GM division.
And let me tell you...that G8 is the best car GM currently sells dollar for dollar. Vette is a great car, CTS is a great car, Malibu is a great car, but the G8 both in V6 and V8 are the best things GM has.
If they could cut 200lbs off Zeta for both G8 and Camaro, I see no reason for great success and be able to fly under CAFE.

Because most people put things like nationalism, etc., below picking a car.
