I haven't heard of anything that you pour into your tank. Sounds like snake oil to me.
|
there is stuff out there like "guaranteed to pass" you have to run it through a full tank of super and yada yada. i don't really see it helping him any.
|
You are running rich, or timing is too retarded. high HC, high CO, low NOx = running rich or timing too retarded. EGR wouldn't help you, its main purpose is to reduce NOx. I'd bet if you could bump up timing or lean it out you would see a drastic change.
Hydro Carbons = unburned fuel |
probably from the cam

When the car was taken to inspection, was it properly warmed up? If the cat is not in the stock location and you don't have the stock emissions equipment it may not be getting hot enough to work properly. |
got me  i'd read the bottle first.

My junk is a 95 Formula 6 speed inspected on Nov 1 and it passed; it has ~ 55,000 miles. Prior to inspection I used the "Guaranteed to Pass" solution as well as changed the oil. I probably idled 30 minutes waiting to get through the inspection line in Wayne.
Significant Mods are limited Kooks LT and cats, 1.6 crane rockers, K&N Filtercharger and a TTP tune using LT1 Edit Reading from the inspection report: NOx standard = 879, reading = 650 HC standard = 117, reading = 54 CO standard = .65, reading = .05 Two years ago prior to engine mods the inspection report reading: NOx standard = 879, reading = 289 HC standard = 117, reading = 10 CO standard = .65, reading = zero I think the reason the readings got worse was due to cooler cats. The headers push the cats further from the engine, there are now 2 cats vs. 1 and there is more overall tubing than stock which I assume is decreasing the cat's operating temps. Your emission problem may also be due to running a cooler thermostat. Hope this helps |
"do it legal or don't do it at all."
thats quite stupid everyone knows that in nj u cant build a car to lay down some BA numbers and drive home and do it legally. i dont see how im ever gonna pass. im buildin a stroker and the cam will be alot bigger then the one he just failed wit plannin on a 234/242 .612/.612 lift guess ill figure it all out wen the time comes. |
thats what drag strips are for. good luck
|
And strokers eat up a bit more cam than stock, so you may be able to tame it enough to pass. Run mids for inspection, get a GOOD cat, random tech comes to mind.Or the heavy metal series. Get a good tune, make sure its all warm and toasty before inspection and don't give em a reason to blatantly fail you.

With how tunable the computers are and with how little actual interference to performance there is from nearly all emissions equipment, it is very easy to drive a fast car on the street legally. -Tim |

I would say that applies to going fast with or without a street car. lol

Get yourself a vacuum reference fuel pressure regulator to reduce fuel flow at idle and have someone take care of the tuning that will put the time into making it right, JSPerformance is good for this kind of thing. You may still have to buy two tunes, one for inspection and one for power.
Keep a catted y-pipe around for inspection and leave the AIR and EGR in place for appearances during inspection if nothing else. They can be programmed out of function, but you at least need it to look like they are there, since the car will have an obvious idle they will likely look much closer at it than the average car rolling through the center. It is doable and really not all that impractical to get a built car through inspection. -Tim |
just buy a sticker it easier and cheaper
|
2011 is a new sticker and will introduce a new program. there will no longer be a print out for the month, rather a month insert number. good luck buying those
|
Where theres a will, theres a way.
|
yeah or state forgery. i forget how that one goes
|
I dont get it? a month insert number?????? like a special sticker that goes over the month?
|
its a new inspection sticker with an actual sticker for the month. like new car dealer stickers.
