I worked at bank for three years..... only two or three bills were suspect. And the speaking English thing i believe that everyone should learn English if they want to live here period.

I think what he was getting at is that most immigrants learn English and it seems quite a lot of Spanish people do not when they come here. For example if I go to the taco bell in Hightstown the people working the line do not speak English only the ones at the cash register and drive through do. Yet if I go to a local asian restraunt everyone there seems to know english.

Also Ana and I believe you were both born and raised in Russia and learned English either when or before you came here. I have a big problem with illegal immigration as well as people not learning English when they come here. But I have a problem with it in all races not just Spanish. It just seems like Spanish is the dominant race that comes here illegally and does not learn English especially if you go to Fla.

"A lot" perception comes from the group of people you interact with. Sure if the only place you go is Taco Bell and McDonalds, than yea 75% (sometimes more, sometimes less) of their workers do not speak English. Is it fair to say that most people of Hispanic descent do not speak English because when you go to a fast food joint people of Hispanic descent there do not interact using your mother tongue. No, that is absurd. That's like me walking in the ghetto and stating that all black people are lazy, lets see this goes over.

Furthermore, when one lumps an entire group of people into one category that's idiotic, to say the least. Ex: All Arabs are terrorists; All blacks are lazy; All Puerto Rican's are thieves.


I'm not defending illegal immigration, I do not like it, condone it, or support it. However, I'm against stupidity, racism and idiotic generalizations.
Indeed I was born in Russia, I came here NOT knowing English, I went to Middle school one week after I arrived, learned English, and everything is peachy now! I would agree with your observation that Hispanics (Spanish are from Spain) are the dominant group of people that come to US, but that is for obvious reasons. Also because of their sheer numbers you would encounter non speaking ones on more frequent basis that non speakers from other parts of the world. However, that does not mean all of them (Hispanics) are non speakers, stupid, non educated, or any other derivatives people throw around. It is generally a very bad habit to judge a large group of people by the actions of the few.

Funny, people who judge the most, at least from my experiences, are usually not the sharpest tools in the box themselves. (That was not directed at you.)

Your right and my perception comes from going to local stores going on vacation and working in a state prison 8-16 hours a day. But as I said before my only problem is people here illegaly and not speaking english I dont give a crap about race color etc. it goes for all people. And being a legal immigrant yourself I am sure you agree with me after you took the effort to learn english and come here legally.

I had a similar experience at mcdonalds last week the night before I flew out to wisconsin to see my brother in the hospital with a brain tumor, so I was already heated.
Mind you my pops and my brother have both worked in and out of restaurents as managers including a GM at wendys and iv been their along the way helping them out as a kid untill now.
Well the ghetto thug at the window gave me an attitude after telling me to hold ona minute 3 times after trying to order each time for 5 minutes apart. Once he gave me that ghetto tude I let him have it cursing and all and telling him theirs 7 cars behind me and 4 just left because fo their poor service
His response was " I don curr i dont own this place"
I responded with the speel about how his manager would feel differently about that and he responded saying his manager was hearing it all and she dont care either.
Cops came harressed me and my buddy for cursing them off but after a few breif words calmed down and told me that I could express myself without cursing i told him these ghetto ****'s dont understand anything else. any way two ghetto hood rats at mcdonalds with no customer service skillz really urked me.

And to further your point (I think) this is all assuming that the people aren't making an attempt to English. They could be new to the country and are trying to learn. A good friend of mine teaches ESL and her classes are always PACKED with people.

If I were in their shoes, fresh to a country without knowing the language I'd probably speak my native language until I was up to speed as well.

That said, the rejection of the money was pure ******** and they should have been trained properly.

i came into this country through mexico when i was 5 with my mom and my two bros. we didnt want to come here ,we had to for survival . weve been here since 91 and my mom and dad still dont know english. my dad works 2 jobs and my mom took care of us and has tried to learn so many time . just cause some one doesnt know english doesnt mean they dont belong here. i hurts me when some one can be that stupid to say things like that. for those that feel that everyone should know english i say to think back to when ur family came to this country what they had to go through . and if u cant imagine that go on a trip somewhere where they dont even know what english is and try to even be there for 2 days with out going insane

As long as someone is in this country legally, and doesn't have a job that requires them to interact vocally with customers, I could care less if they know English or not. I would prefer that they try to learn, being that the vast majority of people in the US speak English as their primary language.

Personally, I would never even think of moving to another country and not learning the language that is commonly spoken there.
