I love interweb macho talk! Kill them! Yes, go to jail over a car! Don't be dumb, do the grown up thing - sue the crap out of them! LOL

Couldn't agree more. If you ever do track events, the first thing they tell you is not to drive any car you can't afford to write off and walk away from. While this was on the street, the same basic logic applies. It's a machine: it can be replaced. If you can't afford it, don't drive it. There's always the chance the impossible or unthinkable will happen.

little duct tape and a car wash will make it as good as new haha

BigAls87Z28 05-09-2009 05:13 PM

That rear sheet metal is so complex, that any hit like that with any Camaro will equal a total out.
I think that could drive up cost of insurance rates in good time.

sweetbmxrider 05-09-2009 05:50 PM

i have no problem reasoning human life with material goods :D

band77one 05-09-2009 06:20 PM

i agree about the insurance possibly going up if the back crumples easily, but, also would be helpful to know what make/model hit them and how fast.

looks like a tank at 5 mph, or a toyota camry at 100 lol

A Challenger?

BigAls87Z28 05-09-2009 07:09 PM

It slammed into the back of the Camaro because the Camaro stops about 40 ft shorter then the Challenger...
Not that its easier to crumple, but that the sheetmetal is going to be much more expensive to fix. The way the fender is shaped with the body, its one of the biggest things they worked on with the car. Its why the trunk opening is so small yet the trunk is massive.

That my friends is why GM builds some of the best vehicles structure wise. Look at the roof lines and the shape of the cabin, barely any distortion. Yes the car is beyond totaled but that driver walked away(well maybe not depending on back/neck issues but you get my drift). The integrity of that car held up and then some.

I wish I still worked at my old job so I could get my hands on the collision diagrams, I'd love to see how the inner-structure is made up on those things.

String 05-09-2009 10:30 PM

wow.

Mike 05-09-2009 10:38 PM

that is why you buy uninsured motorist coverage, and gap insurance

Slo86Bird 05-09-2009 11:15 PM

is the white stuff on the floor his blinker fluid?

madness410 05-09-2009 11:20 PM

nah GM put a carton of milk behind each bumper of every new camaro.

maroman88 05-09-2009 11:24 PM

battery acid? isnt that in the trunk now

Mike 05-09-2009 11:24 PM

your all wrong........bigal came upon the scene before the pics were taken.....

100% agree. My friend just got hit at the bottom of my street, like 1 hr ago. 05 suburban vs 09 toyota minivan, the minivan backed out into her rear pass quarter panel. Basically the rear quarter of the suburban was a wee bit wavy with like 2 holes in the plastic fender, whereas the minivan lost the rear end (bumper lights etc.)

AMERICAN FTW!!!!

Crayface 05-09-2009 11:47 PM

The hardest part i would have in this scenario if i owned that camaro, is which gun to use? haha

BigAls87Z28 05-10-2009 08:09 AM

Nah, hardest part would be do I burn the body, or burry it in the Medowlands...

If I ever win the lottery I am going to buy one (since it isnt an F boday anymore and doesnt deserve to be on this website) and bring a saw and cut it up at the dealership

they seriously must have been hauling. its amazing how well the car held up. the driver door looks rather mint and the sunroof is open and the glass looks intact. that says something.

the car didnt hold up well if they were not hauling...just messin with ya. these are kind of weird paradoxical statements though if the speed isnt given. This looks like a 30-50 mph crash, def not 100! the car would have been destroyed well past the rear crumpling up. A rear quarter angle shot like that will destroy any car though, so they may have not been going fast at all. There isnt much structure in that direction, just sheet metal and suspension
