I don't know of any law that states you cannot warn oncoming traffic of an officer's presence. I do know that there is a statute against flashing high beams at oncoming traffic (N.J.S. 39: 3-58), but I don't know of one that specifically says you can't warn others about a cop ahead. If anyone's going to prove me wrong, it's probably Jim.

I was always told it can be considered "obstruction of justice" or something if you warn oncoming traffic of the presence of an officer by any means.

A LEO has already posted in the thread saying that warning oncoming drivers is not illegal...however flashing your high beams (regardless of the purpose) is illegal. - Justin |
