Yeah, not a good example.
CTS-V and ZR1 are better examples.

In 97... the z28's only had 45 more hp.

Yep. At the time it wasn't that bad. The best GM had to offer only had 345hp that year, too. The Mustang GT was 225hp. Getting a stock family car to beat a stock V8 Mustang isn't that bad a deal. And I used to do that all the time.
