I don't feel guilty that they are taxed worse than I.

Not really since that oil rig that is responsible for the spill was still being tapped into and that oil was not on the market yet, so that should not affect prices at all, but oil companies will use that as an excuse.

The barrel of oil is down almost $10 in the past couple of days, but of course gas prices have remained steady.

theoretically yes that oil spill shouldnt affect the price or gas. BUT with this stupid backwards government we have and all the fat cats in office it will. they will come up with some stupid excuse just to raise the price.

its only a matter of time....:|

FlyingDutchman 05-07-2010 11:44 PM

yeah thats what i was meaning to say, indirectly we will end up paying for the clean up through gas prices..

mc73nova 05-08-2010 08:00 AM

I am happy to report that I paid 2.79 for regular, $32 to fill it(it was beyond Empty!) and still have a half tank as of this morning :)

spina74 05-08-2010 12:08 PM

without being political, who thinks this off shore drilling if it happens will drop the prices. I kind of have the feeling that US companies and foreign companies will begin to compete and lower the prices.

Frosty 05-08-2010 01:02 PM

It might help long term, it won't help short term. The fact is this country will never become energy independent, we are slaves to the Arabs, we made our bed decades ago and now it's time to lie in it.

NastyEllEssWon 05-08-2010 01:30 PM

they need to stockpile all oil gained from domestic drilling for the future

BigAls87Z28 05-08-2010 01:49 PM

I think some of you might need to rethink that off shore drilling feeds only America.
Think that the oil pumped out of the ground there will be sent exclusivly to the US is silly.
Im surprised that gas prices arent at 4 dollars a gallon because of one rig.

NastyEllEssWon 05-08-2010 02:02 PM

i dont see anywhere where anyone made that assumption?

This one was a stretch I will say, but it was an answer to the domestic OSD question. Came off as OSD drilling will be American only, and that if we have OSD, in the long term will we will get away from Arab dominated oil.

NastyEllEssWon 05-08-2010 03:10 PM

no its just what they need to do. oils not going to be around forever.

Frosty 05-08-2010 03:12 PM

 Where did I say ANYTHING about OSD oil solely staying in America? You're making an ASSumption.

I made it a point to say we'll never become energy independent and that we're slaves to Arab oil....how is that even remotely close to saying or ASSuming that OSD oil would stay in America?

But, in theory more oil in the market the less the price per barrel is, thus IN THEORY slightly lower fuel costs(again, in theory), hence me saying it might help long term(again, no mention of the oil staying here, lol). Even if we started drilling today we wouldn't see any substantial oil increase in the market for 3-5 years. It's a global market, however SOME of the oil would stay here which "might" help. You're grasping at straws, as usual.

BigAls87Z28 05-08-2010 03:41 PM

I said it was a bit of a stretch.
Nasty said that domestic oil should be stockpiled here in America.
I think there is a general idea that OSD would drop prices everywhere, and that if its done off the coast of the US, that it will drive costs down here at home.
Maybe not directly with you gents, but there are a lot of people that think that OSD would drop everything below a dollar.
There was no oil shortage several years ago when Katrina hit the Gulf. Its not like we were scraping the bottom of the barrel, no pun intended, for oil. There was plenty out there, just prices driven higher by speculation.
None of it had anything to do with the lack of oil.

NastyEllEssWon 05-08-2010 03:47 PM

my point is that whatever oil that is gained (i doubt 100 percent of the domestic drilling operation is put into the world market) should be stockpiled by the US. compared to the rest of the world our prices for fuel aren't that bad. when the oil eventually will run out (maybe 10, maybe 20 or 100 years) the markets gonna go boom. the amount they can stockpile from drilling now may not seem a lot but after years of accumulation it will provide our country with a cushion to be able to gradually wean ourselves away from relying on the non-renewable fossil fuels

also, instead of lowering prices now, it would keep things steady and be able to sustain lower prices longer until oil is no longer available....because we will consume all of the oil in the future.

How will that save you money? You still have to pay for the Vespa.
