The only bad Ive heard so far is that people think its maxed out and wont respond very well to mods, and hp/$ is going to be rough

You definately got your dyno numbers wrong

i dont even consider that camaro a fbody.

and it seriously is about time ford went back to the 5.0. that 4.6 was a stupid turd. I loved the fox bodies and the early SN95?s that had the 302s in them. the 4.6L was such a downgrade. new 5.0 for the win.

I had a 99 2v Mustang GT 4.6 with a few mods and it responded very well to them. Best time was only a 12.8, but the car was no slug. I have to agree that i am glad to see Ford go back to the 5.0

What mods did you have done to it to run a 12.8?

We worked on my buddies 00 GT and he had Headers,Full exhaust, 4.10 gears, Upper intake, All the suspension parts, skinny fats with MT ET streets, 4V aluminum block, and his car weighed about 300lbs lighter then it did stock! His best pass was a 12.8 @ 105mph!! Stock he went 13.9@98.

The 2v's were slugs!! I owned a 96 2v and it was a real dog!

That's pretty much what it boils down to. The Mustang has been slow junk since the early 90's, it's about time they can beat a LT1 or LS1 for that matter. I agree with Justin though, lets see an actual LS3 vs. 5.0.

I welcome the rivalry, the war is back.

Jersyboyy 03-31-2010 03:06 PM

Yes the war is back...Im loving it...and my buddies 99 cobra with just 3:73s intake and catback was 13.0 with another driver. Pretty quick car.
But the new 5.0 motor is more than just a ford 5.0 motor its a completely new motor rivaled against the lsx motors and it is badass if you read into its specs.
I give the new mustang alot of props its pretty hot and it makes a great match for the new Camaro so good of a match makes me worried.
And im pretty sure who ever said the new 5.0 motor is almost pushed to its limits and anything aftermarket $/HP WONT be cheap/worth it your wrong that motors got ALOT left in it from the factory.

Just making sure that you guys both understand that this 5.0 has way more in common with the 4.6 mod motor than the old fox body era 5.0. The only thing Ford went "back" to is a familiar displacement number.

The 99+ 2Vs had different heads, cams, and intake and were a lot better than the 98- version.

Eh, new 5.0 is a hell of a car. If the GT got the performance pack, its also got the higher gears.
Mustang has weight advantage over Camaro, and a little gear as well.
Ford seems to have done a great job with this new 5.0, and really showed up what that chassis can do.
Camaro is heavy, but the SS is to soft.

Camaro SS= Super Soft

SLP Longtubes, Catless X, SLP LM1 Catback, TB/plenum, 4.10 gears, ET Streets, 2v heads, most of the usual suspension and a Vortech V2

Conflicting numbers, but what the hell...

Motortrend 435hp/404tq

Edmunds...395hp/365tq

BurninrubberGT 03-31-2010 10:28 PM

I thought it had 412/390 at the flywheel??

You had all those mods and a Supercharger and was only running a 12.8?? Wow!! Thats like 5 or 6k in mods to run what a pretty much stock LS1 runs!!

My old roomate with pretty much those same mods but a built motor with ported heads and blower cam on 15 lbs of boost went 11.8 @ 119mph!! He made 440 rwhp!! He sold the car soon after that!! Dumped about 15-20 grand into it and ran a high 11!! He was pissed when my V6 with heads and cam on a 125 shot trapped 118mph!!

Like I said before they were slugs!! They went from 225hp in 98 to 260hp in 99-04 with the new PI setup!! The best thing you could do to a 2v motor is put 4v heads on it if you want to keep it all motor!!

Thats a Cobra with a 4v motor!! They were quick cars just the Gts were not!! I like the fact that the war is back its just funny how everyone is crowning the Mustang already when the Camaro hasnt had a chance to fight back!!

The aftermarket is going to suck for it price wise!! A cam swap is going to be 2k dollars for just parts!!

4.9567 L is close enough to 5 liters.

Hey if it runs faster congrats, dynos dont lie, timeslips dont lie.

Blacdout96 04-01-2010 03:26 PM

screw all the V8 talk, the 6 cylinders is where it's at right now, mustangs pulling times you'd see stock 4th gens run. Time to see what GM fires back with the Camaro.

I also would like to point out that anyone who boughta first year is truely not the smartest. Now that Ford has fired these shots, I can see GM busting out some numbers to compete. time to up the anty.

BigAls87Z28 04-01-2010 05:41 PM

To build off what Justin said...the new 5.0 has nothing to do with the 5.0 of yore, outside of the size of displacement. Zero. Not even a spark plug.
The 5.0 is a larger Mod motor aka 4.6/5.4 with some new style heads and improved flow.
