It took me and my old roomate 4hrs to do the headers on my LS1. That was in the driveway with jack stands and no air tools. It seems from everyone that has done headers on a LT1 that its a real PITA. I never did headers on a LT1 but let us know Dave how long it takes. Depending on how big of a PITA it is will pretty much decide me doing headers on my Firehawk.

sweetbmxrider 09-04-2010 08:24 AM

if you have done headers in general before, it makes life easier. its the newbs that don't know what to expect and are tackling it for the first time that make it seem like hell. tis fun!

MaxTheKiing 09-04-2010 03:45 PM

wow those came out good

Slow-V6 09-06-2010 07:59 AM

How did the install go?

LTb1ow 09-06-2010 08:09 AM

Header install, not so bad.

Motor mount install, rough.

I think he is happy with how they came out so thats a plus.

Little vid of the first start

LTb1ow 09-06-2010 08:06 PM

Cool pal.

Slow-V6 09-06-2010 09:08 PM

Looks and sounds good. That driverside portion of the y-pipe really hangs low.

LTb1ow 09-06-2010 09:12 PM

It was 3am in the morning and the pal almost took my hand off with a sawzall, it can be adjusted anytime the south folk wanna lend a hand to him.

I have a jack and stands but we cant work on cars in my Apartment. I can bring them anywere.

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-06-2010 09:26 PM

Yeah It hangs low but surprisingly I haven't bottomed going in or out of my driveway yet. For the amount of hours that was put into it and the time of night I wasn't worried about it being so low. I was happy it started haha. For those that know my driveway that's pretty impressive. Between the mounts, headers, and CAI there is a HUGE difference in the way the car performs. The Y pipe will get adjusted when I get the cutout put on. Oddly enough my fuel economy has improved.

Yeah Matt almost lost a hand from a sawzall and Adam almost lost his due to a prybar.

Even the motor mounts were a little less than forgiving it was a good time and I learned a lot about my car an LT1s in general. I think one of these days I need to go over every bolt to check for tightness everywhere in the car because 95% of the bolts were loose and came out frighteningly easy lol.

Next step is a Tune and new O2s.

Slow-V6 09-06-2010 09:43 PM

You get better gas miles because there is no restrictions in your intake and exhaust.

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-06-2010 09:45 PM

Yeah I figured that was the case.

sweetbmxrider 09-06-2010 10:17 PM

those bolts were all loose cause they knew kohler was coming and they wanted to live to see another lt1

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-07-2010 12:22 PM

Found a loose spark plug today lol. My car likes to loosen itself up. All is good though. I have a new dipstick on its way.Now I just need a coolant temp sensor, the one for the gauge... Anyone have one laying around?

BigAls87Z28 09-07-2010 12:31 PM

which one?

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-07-2010 12:43 PM

Farthest one on the driverside. It was the only one. Tightened it up all is good. Tryin to go to atco tonight to see what she does.
