x2 on don't take a loan for go-fast parts. Most will agree it's not really a good idea down the road. Save up, buy what you can afford, get another source of income, etc

"Once when I was dating my g/f (now wife) and my car wouldnt start she said to me "you should get a new car."

I replied, "When you dont want to put out my car dosent tell me to get a new girlfriend."

I laughed, she didnt. "

its hard to find a girl into cars...... once you get one never let her go. I know someone in this club who is very lucky to have a car girl ;)

Well it doesn't sound like you were really that happy anyway. My girlfriend encourages me to do what I want with my car (she talked me into $200 speakers). She also wants to learn how to drag race, so I will be teaching her to stage, burnout and launch soon. Some guys just get lucky :) She's a keeper.

foff667 10-13-2010 03:41 PM

I think if I told my wife I was going to spend 10k on my car she'd leave ME

Guess I have different priorities...

btownws6 10-13-2010 05:12 PM

haha my wife isnt too happy when it comes to spending a lot of money on the car b/c we have a daughter but she loves the car just as much as i do and i know she'll never tell me to get rid of it she actually figures out ways for the money to make it's way into the car haha. Plus she knows that the car will stay regardless of what she says haha

I would like to meet this lucky man!!

Ok ok im kidding. But seriously, car is only a meterial posession. Don't get carried away and do regretfull crap. Being young still, you may look back down the road (no pun intended) and wonder what if

Mine would just ask 'what do I get?'. How much $$ I have on hand at the time determines if it is check or checkmate.

a. wrecked my car, what should i buy with the insurance money
b. sick of the 13 year old fbody, camaro for sale.

Quite while you're ahead, with your luck your brain is going to spontaneously combust any minute now!

camaroracer1992 10-14-2010 12:14 PM

just went through the same thing recently, except mine was like "sell your camaro for an engagement ring". Now i have nothing against marriage, but to sell my car that was paid/built BEFORE she even came along was ridiculous. i was like F*** that. I explained that since she has never paid for a dinner, etc she had no room to complain, well we know how that ended haha!

I have dated many girls over the years, and if theyre not cool with the car now, they never will be, yea it may suck when it all goes down, but the next car part you buy or the next pass down the strip and youll go "what woman?"

firebirdcrazy 10-14-2010 05:32 PM

I told my lady after a comment she made there will be 3 things in my life at all times. My Dog, my car, and my Motorcycle. She will go before they do and I have held true to my word. She Never brought up that issue again. lol. Bottom line make it clear from the get go and it will never be an issue.

That is key. You can't expect to set the expectations 7 years down the road. And if you are serious about cars any wife-to-be needs to know and accept that. I can't tell you how many guys I know who had to give up the car or just watch it sit in the garage because they never came to an understanding. So no weekend trips, or even whole day trips. Hell, just trying to get out for a few hours is a hassle and after a while guys give up because it ain't worth it.

I will say this - it is a 2 way street. I can't expect to go to Carlisle for 4 days and not expect my wife to go away with her friends for a few days. That is where a lot of guys go wrong, they are over bearing, un-trusting husbands. It's a give & take deal. And family first. I've missed a lot of cruises and such for baseball and other things. And I don't care. I have fun and I'll still get to go to pigeon forge next year, and power tour one of these days, and back to sema, and Carlisle, etc. My wife knows I need my car to be happy, and she knows I won't put it in front of what is really important.
