If you buy a car sans everything, chances are you won't driving it long distances, or in the winter, or any of those scenarios..If you buy a 1LE camaro chances are it's a 2nd/3rd car and is relegated to nice day/weekend warrior status.

I wish you could buy cars without options. Leather seats usually suck, I use AC like 4 times a year, heat maybe 10 times a year, and could do without power everything else. Radio would be important for a DD but I can easily do without anything else. Maybe it's because I'm so used to driving big trucks with no radio, no seatbelts, no air, no heat, roll down windows, etc. but all this power ***** is a waste of money.

Issue is that it would cost more to engineer the car without it than with it.
Radio you could probably delete, but the weight savings is zilch with modern stuff. Most power window motor systems weight less than roll up, especially if you had to engineer the damn system from scratch since there are no roll up windows for it.
AC removal would also dictate some reengineering of the HVAC system.

Let me put it this way, would you pay another 1,500-2k over a base level 1SS for a 1LE stripper package?

If I was in the market for a Camaro, yes, I would prefer that over the SS package, and pay the extra for less, as long as it had the 1LE designation.

Let me at it!

I think Jeff brought up a good point earlier in the post. Is there a racing series this could roll right up to and participate in the US? ( excluding autocross events) That was the main appeal to the original 1LE, to compete against Fords twisty bit cars. Baffled fuel tank, manual only, etc, it really was a true track car.

Also, has anyone driven an electrical steering vehicle? Is there a slight delay like when an electric throttle body opens up?

my ion has electric steering. feels normal to me. its not like an electrical signal is sent to a digital gearbox moving the rack, its still hooked to the rack, but rather has an electrical motor to give it the power steering, rather than fluid. my electrical steering went out (common on these and was warrantied) and it was just like driving without power steering.

Lots of cars have it now. Feed back depends on who makes it and its intent.

I think you missed the following as well:

- Sport suspension featuring Magnetic Ride Control
- Six-speed manual close-ratio transmission
- Lightweight 20x10-inch (front) and 20x11-inch (rear) racing wheels (satin black)
- GoodyearŽ Eagle F1 Supercar G asymmetrical tires (from the ZL1)
- BremboŽ six-piston front calipers, with two-piece front rotors, and four-piston rear calipers (Chevrolet Official Licensed Product)

....just sayin'

I think as I've grown older, I've realized just how irrelevant a stripped down car like this is. Old farts can't tolerate it, young guys can't afford it, racers don't care because they rip everything out anyways and don't care how it came from the factory. I'd much rather a comfy GT car than a rattly sports or muscle car these days. I wish forums like LS1tech would stop telling people they need to strip down their cars and turn them into race cars.

I see your point in generalizations Jake, but in regards to stripped down 4th gens and such (typical 'tech situation), it's really all a matter of what you are willing to live with to go fast. Some people are in a situation where many of those creature comforts that others can't live without are irrelevant. For example - I haven't daily driven a vehicle with working AC since February '07 and I spent most of the last 2 years daily driving a Jeep with bare metal floors and no radio.

Or you just have a daily driver with those comforts and driving a fast tin car every once and awhile is enjoyable.

I suppose you are right. I've lived without AC in the camaro for years, and have barely noticed it. Others would cry going a day without it in the summer. Rereading it, my perspective is different being that I don't race my car. I had street driving, and the marginal gains associated with stripping down your interior, in mind when I wrote that.

Which is what I'm doing now, although at this point, I'd much rather an all-purpose vehicle that could do both. But I'm sure once I get one of those, I'll miss having a more hardcore sports cars.

Man, the grass really is always greener on the other side.

It's a concept. Color is just for SEMA.

sweetbmxrider 12-06-2011 09:38 AM

Blacdout96 12-06-2011 09:56 AM

Now that's worthy of the 1LE name!! Maybe sans the big wing and roll cage, but hell I'll take whatever.
