I can steer you in the right direction for mods to give you the hp you want... you just have to ask, then listen, then follow through.
There is a million parts out there that say hp this and hp that. but you need to pick the correct part combos to give you the results your looking for.

Exactly what I was thinking. If they picked the cam and you said that you wanted a "wicked evil street car" then they are pretty dumb. I know that that shop deals mainly with older muscle cars. That means old school mentality. To them that cam probably seems a lot bigger than it really is...

shadowfire 01-08-2012 08:14 PM

yea so its back to the drawing board,, i just wish i didnt spend all that money

FWIW my Nova's cam is pretty mild and it's 224/230 @ .050

This is why you do tons of research before spending any money. Bringing it to a shop (especially one that doesnt specialize in late model motors) usually wont have as good of a result. If you want that shop to do the work on the car, thats fine. But if I were you I would supply them with all of the parts.

shadowfire 01-08-2012 08:24 PM

yea so now im f@#$%ed cause i spent all that money, and i have to rebuild the thing all over and i dont have the cash so i guess it will sit for awhile

Your money was not spent in vain. There are way worse things that could happen. Just stick around and ask some questions about your next mods :mrgreen:

shadowfire 01-08-2012 08:46 PM

how much do you think that would cost and what work does that entail

MyFirstZ 01-08-2012 10:11 PM

I would enjoy the car still and just wait and save and when the time comes modify it.

408 and forced induction are on my current wishlist. . . just a matter of when

S.J.SLEEPER 01-08-2012 10:42 PM

pm sent
stock block/pistons w/what I suggested will give you what your looking for.

I'm not knocking Charlie, just the expense of a 402/408 isn't really justified unless you plan on going F.I. or on the bottle, as the stock short block can hold 500+ w/out a problem

475rwhp threw an auto on stock ci will not be very well street mannered. You can build a 408 and make 500rwhp and still drive very well. Stock CI has its limitations.

Depends on how crazy you go and what you want to do for cylinder heads

Not that true. Kirk puts down almost 460 thru his stalled auto on a stock bottom end, runs 10s, and drives the car on the street no problem...

Guess it depends on you opinion on street manners though. It varies for different people...

^^^^I agree^^^^

also proven 525hp+ @ flywheel (roughly 430-440rwhp) using TFS heads/cam combo which has decent street manners with it tuned properly.

I've also put down 442rwhp with cnc'd heads w/ms3 cam 3800 stall/12bolt and I drove it everywhere without any serious drivability issues.

WayFast84 01-10-2012 11:04 PM

Since this turned to motor talk how much power can the stock crank take? I want to build a shortblock using an iron block, I plan on 440ish n/a and spray a 200 shot if I go this route.

DaSkinnyGuy 01-10-2012 11:05 PM

In the ballpark of a setup you would like.
