gotta run out in the morning to get the new rotors, then is installation and bleeding... the bleeding walkthrough given here by Ted is good right? he forget any little things?

Savage_Messiah 11-05-2005 12:41 PM

so I hate when bolts (like the ones holding the caliper onto the whole assembly) are on so tight that i put an aluminum pipe on the end of the ratchet for some more leverage and it rips a hole through the aluminum... pads are changed, old rotors are getting another shot tomorrow with a breaker bar...

Oddball 11-05-2005 10:52 PM

This is too funny. I always go near the middle of the month right when they open. Never had a problem except for my high-mount being dead. They rightly failed me for it. Turns out I unplugged the wire when working on the rear hatch assembly. I changed bulbs and plugged it back in and passed easily.

Oh, and if you think you might fail on emissions go on the wettest muggiest day possible. The extra moisture in the atmosphere will help you pass.

Savage_Messiah 11-06-2005 01:05 AM

I have a 97, no emissions testing

Savage_Messiah 12-15-2005 02:04 PM

Just got back from Wayne.. everything passed except the exhaust but not because it's modified but rather too loud.

I call the number on the paper because I realized I should ask how mant decibles it registered at... and they tell me that they dont measure it, but rather it's up to the discretion of the inspector.

That's ******** since its in an enclosed building... also ******** because the new rejected sticker lasts until 45 days from the FIRST inspection... which is today.

The inspector told me change the muffler and I'd be fine... but if this all is true that Ridgewood doesnt give a **** I'm gonna try them first.

Savage_Messiah 12-15-2005 02:08 PM

and BTW I brought and showed my reciepts for the blinkers, pads and rotors, the printout of the 50-state legal paperwork from Magnaflow's website, a flyer Jim (theexhaustguys) got to me saying the cats are legal, and I even found the reciept from mufflex for when I got the flanges welded on.

Loudness up the the discretion of the inspector = BULLLLLLL****

Keep fighting it!

Is it possible to just take it to a small time inspection station, like local gas stations? Its not like your really failing for anything.

Savage_Messiah 12-15-2005 02:19 PM

For one I don't really wanna pay $75 when all im failing for is the exhaust

unless uh... someone knows somewhere where the discretion of the inspector is lenient and I wouldnt have to pay so much... http://www.fullthrottlev6.com/forums...ies/secret.gif

volume must be tested based on an outdoor setting under light loud at a constant rpm. the tester can not personally decide what is or isn't too loud since the national/state standard is written down at a specific db rating. i believe it is 90or 95 db to be exact. either one is much louder than your car can be at any rpm.

which one? The white lt1 car is on jack stands i beleive still & then theres the JL8 car lol

Savage_Messiah 12-15-2005 03:16 PM

That is the impression that I was under as well, but the DMV and a private station I called both told me that for inspection it is up to the inspector.

If anyone knows where I can get an OFFICIAL decible reading then that would work, if I go in ther ewith official paperwork saying it's within the legal limit then they can't argue with that. That would be good to keep in the car too in case a cop decides to question it

nj85z28 12-15-2005 03:45 PM

**** the DMV, i never, ever had a car no matter how new, that passed the first time, including my 2000 Z71 and the GTP

Brando56894 12-15-2005 04:14 PM

thats just plain ********! fight the power!

ar0ck 12-15-2005 04:19 PM

Kasey your local Police Department is supposed to carry at least one Decibal tester. Im sure if you called them up and talked to them maybe they can do you some good, with an official print out as well.

Savage_Messiah 12-15-2005 04:41 PM

I mihgt do that... good call....

jims69camaro 12-15-2005 08:12 PM

http://www.epa.gov/region02/air/sip/13_20-Sub32.pdf

the only mention of a replacement muffler is on page 24, which says it's acceptable if the muffler is made for the vehicle and the company certifies that is has a safe exhaust gas exit.

i have yet to find any mention of sound levels, even in the motor vehicle code (which the cops use to write tickets). i'm tired, i'll look more tomorrow.

JL8Jeff 12-16-2005 07:48 AM

At this point I would probably get it tested and show some proof of what the decibel level is really at. If you go to a different inspection station then those inspectors might not want to overrule the first inspector so proof would be helpful. Didn't your mom tell you not to put fart pipes on your Camaro!;)

2001orangess 12-16-2005 08:55 AM

i didn't read all the responses cause they look kinda long, but just buy a sticker
