why you would want to put a 5 speed in it is beyond me...

its not terrbily hard if you have everything.

fun to drive

tko is more then just swapping the trans-you need an aftermarket bellhousing, hydralic throwout and new clutch master cylinder, new crossmember and probably a new drive shaft..

Manuals usually trap higher, but autos are quicker......and ET wins races :)

WayFast84 03-20-2007 03:53 PM

A well tuned auto with an avg. driver will be faster then an avg driver in a manual. their is all sorts of verriables. But In my eyes Id rather have a street car/ DD with a manual, and a track car with an auto,

You guys can't really make generalizations about transmission type and speed/ET. There are too many other variables.

i wanna see how his new 69 tub car is gonna do. i kno he was runing 10.2s with his 70 with only a fiberglass hood. but that car is back to factory now and his 69 is the new drag racer. suppose to have over 1100hp

exactly- everyone is making blanket statements simply about the type of trans used and not the tons of different varibles that come into play....

Teds89IROC 03-20-2007 11:11 PM

well bottom line, its very hard to find a good enough driver to shift as perfect as a programmed computer.

You won't find a human that can row gears on a "normal" manual transmission (not gonna get into pushbuttons or sequential manuals) as fast as an automatic prepared for drag racing.

i think the fastest three pedal car is one of shep's non-dog box dsm's which is in the mid 7's iirc, theres a couple vipers and supra's lookin to crush that number this year

if the auto was prepped for drag racing then its not comparable or equal to a stock manual trans..its like comparing apples to oranges...

I was comparing a stock manual trans to a stock automatic trans, but either way its hard to find someone if anyone at all depending on the setup.

Tru2Chevy 03-21-2007 12:28 PM

Even if it were a modded manual, you wouldn't be able to shift as quickly as the automatic.
