The Z06 looks about a million times better, even though I do find the rear of the GTR to be attractive with the taillights. The GTR does slightly out perform the Z06 and they have the same sticker price (as recenlty shown to me).

The big advantage I do see over the Z06 is that the GTR (if built like most any other Japeneese factory Turbo car) could easily handle more boost with the stock (or a larger aftermarket) Turbo's giving it a very inexpensive upgrade to gobs of extra power probable all on the stock motor. This is why Supra's are appealing to me as it has been shown time and time again that the stock motor will take enough boost to show 1,000 RWHP. This flat out amazes me, and it makes it desirable as well as who can't honestly say that they wouldn't want to throw a large Turbo on a car, and not have to touch the motor and make that kind of power. Not sure yet if the GTR's motor will take the same level of the abuse that a 2-JZE will in a Supra, but I would almost expect it to.

thats not entirely correct. the "stock bottom end" of the motor can make that much power, but the top end most certainly can't.

what kind of motor is in the GTR? I only ask because the supra's 2-JZE was an inline 6 cylinder. thats why it could hold all that power, it had a lot more main caps than a V6 so the crank was supported better.

Even if the motor can handle it, what about the rest of the drivetrain? As far as I have heard the stock Z06 drivetrain (minus maybe the clutch) has held up well to everything people have thrown at it.

Its loosely based on the VQ35 3.5 V6. Its a brand new block displacing 3.8 liters. It was designed specificly for the GT-R. It was built to take large boost levels as well as handle future upgrades. Combine with twin turbo, its a powerful engine set up.
I still dont see where these numbes are coming from. Its 500lbs heavier then the Z06 with 20hp less.

Yes it can. And it does as countless Supra owners have made that power level without touching the motor (top or bottom end). All it requires is a MUCH larger than factory turbo setup, along with all the fuel supporting mods, a good engine management system along with a tune and some race gas, and you have a 1,000 HP beast that is making reliable power all on the stock motor.

I'm not familiar with the GTR's engine, but I am confident it will be one that will be on similar lines as the Supra's in the sense that it will take lots more power/boost safely than what it came with from the factory.

and here I thought they had to at least swap out cams or something. whatever, the "stock motor" 1,000hp ones have unbearable turbo lag and still run low 12's at 167mph

I'd be willing to bet that the VQ based engine wont hold as much power as the 2-JZE is capable of holding. not without some hard-block and a main girdle.

i've also heard the vq has a weak valvtrain setup. i wonder if they remedied that as well

Some guys run different heads, or change cams, however it is not needed to achive the power level. Yeah the larger the Turbo, the more the lag (and usually less usable power band).

Someone posted up saying they thought one crashed already. It did. So much for traction control and AWD

I know but you'd think it would make it harder

Part of it's the AWD, but I would think for that reason it wouldn't do as well on the Ring.

BigAls87Z28 01-10-2008 11:27 AM

AWD? What does that mean? AWD might give it better traction, but its not like the Z06 is sliding all over the road.

That's my point. The understeer and added weight from AWD should hurt it on the ring, especially when combined with less power.
