i have been. conversation flows for those that have been friends for years, but for those of us who have bad memories or are new to the meets, i just figured that conversation would flow a lot easier if you could look at a person's nametag and say, oh, yeah, that asshat, or whatever, and start up a convo.

it helps break the ice for those who are on the outside of the clique, ya know?

IMO 'clique' is the wrong term, at least I perceive it as a negative term. There were cliques in high school and if you were not in the clique they wouldn't even talk to you. I've not found that to be the case here. Sure, people who know each other well tend to congregate together, that is quite natural.

If your 'the new guy', just introduce yourself to people, and hang around where the conversation is. I'm amazed when I see 1 or 2 people having their own conversation off to the side, then later they perceive they are not 'in'. I've seen that in many group settings. Just get involved. I have found this to be a very accomodating group.

Have a good time today everyone.

Kasey, there were only like 10 of us, and I brought non-regulars. It was me, Echomirage, Tim, Kelsey, Paul, Jim, slaptastic and his g/f (nonregulars), and a local friend of mine. We all left like 330ish. What happened to Bob, Ron, etc.?

unstable bob gable 02-16-2008 03:32 PM

I had some last minute bull chit come up that I had to take care of. And I just finished up a little while ago, so it was a wash. :-x Believe me, I had a full tank of gas and was ready to roll!

EchoMirage 02-16-2008 03:59 PM

i PMed ron yesterday, he was going to bring an air dam for me, but said then he wasnt sure if he was going to make it......so i guess he didnt.

Tru2Chevy 02-16-2008 04:55 PM

Sorry I didn't make it guys....my wife had a bad migraine this morning and I stayed home to take care of the baby so she could sleep it off. Hope you guys had a good time!

I really wish I brought the Camaro out. I could have washed it across the street from Applebee's, lol.

good time, as usual.

as far as the clique goes, i didn't mean it in a negative way. it's just that there are those from hamilton who've known each other for years, and those ewingites, too. some people tend to stand off for some reason. me, i get involved no matter who is standing around. i walk right up and introduce myself. that's if i know you're from the club.

if it tends to be a smaller group, like yesterday, then it's a non-issue. however, once you get a bunch of people turning out, like upwards of 30, like the firkin meets, then it becomes more of an issue. dunno, maybe i am making an issue out of nothing. i just want those members of our club who turn out to be able to join whatever conversation, just like here on the board, when we meet in person. you never know, some people are timid by nature and just don't get involved in larger groups like i do.

it was nice to meet some new (?!?) faces. some of you have been around the board for a while, so i guess it was about time i got to put some names to faces. slaptastic and guest, sorry you guys were at the other end of the table, i would've like to have talked with you. unfortunately, my agenda was as it is most of the time, all business. tim and i talked about some things that i will be getting involved in that will benefit the board. and that was around both of us eating pretty healthy-sized plates of food and desert.

to the others there, please don't feel like i was ignoring you. i tried to get people involved in the conversation when it was appropriate, and even tried to keep an ear open to other things happening at the table.

the things you learn about people is really cool. even the army stuff.

i hope everyone had a good time and would like to extend a standing invitation to all to come out to the meets and have some good food and good company with us. it really is a kick-ass way to spend a saturday.
