The first Chevy engine didn't show up in a Firebird until 1980, but even then you could still get the 301. Yes, they shared the same framework and structure. But for the better part of two generations, they weren't just re-badged Camaros.

that is why I singled out 3rd & 4th gens :-P

An engine doesnt change whether or not they were made on the same production line with the same frame. Ever heard of Any Motors Corporation? So if you ordered one with a chevy engine it was a chevy because it had a chevy engine in it? or if I put a chevy engine in a fox body it is magically a chevy? :rollseye:
They have always been a Camaro, sorry to burst your bubble there. And BTW I am a Pontiac guy but I own two Camaros

Like it or not , I think the "new" Trans Am should not exist without Pontiac. And I don't like it.

I think what hawk means is that yeah it's a firebird, but an integral part of what makes people buy cars is the drivetrain options. when pontiac used only their motors, the firebird ment a little something more to pontiac owners, because they had drivetrain otions others didnt come with such as the 455 SD  lol

You are correct what you mean, but for the majority of the frame, suspension, braking, and other parts, they were almost identical, what made them different from each other was the drivetrain interior, and outside appearnce, and performance numbers. when Pontiac started using chevy motors, though parts were easier to interchange and obtain, they became more identical then ever, and it now came down to interior and outside appearance that seperated them, otherwise performance wise, you were buying basicall the same car,

That's just my 0.02

Yes, that was my point exactly. I think most agree when they hear the term "re-badge" it refers to one car that has a counterpart of the exact same equivalent, only the name and appearance are changed. It implies everything is carried over from one car to the other: engine, powertrain, framework, etc. which would make it a complete re-badge. When Pontiac still made their own engines, it gave buyers different options that weren't available in the Camaro. For example, ram air induction was only available on the Firebird 400 in '67-'68, and didn't show up to my knowledge on the Camaro until the '69 SS. So for those first two years, if you wanted ram air on an F-Body, Firebird was the choice. All I'm saying is for sometime, eventhough it was in most respects a "re-badge," the Firebird/Trans Am had options that made it its own car.

I think it's nice. Really a rebodied camaro thats what the trans has always been. I really do like it though.

Yea thats why it looks horrible.... nothing wrong with second gens but on a car thats suppose to look like a 1st gen. The tail panel looks really bad

BigRed 09-02-2009 07:22 PM

heres another shot of the rear

I like some of it, but would need to change a few things.

1. A shaker / cowl combo doesn't look right. One or the other.

2. The bird coloring needs to be more "gold" like the 2nd gen SEs

3. The rear is hideous - a ducktail spoiler is fine, but not that stupid thing.

4. If they want to use "retro style" tail lights, then something closer to the 3rd/4th gen lights with the grid pattern on it, would look better.

Overall I like the direction they're going in with the front end. But the rest of the body kit needs changes.

that one is amazing!

Frosty 09-03-2009 11:17 PM

They need to just let it go....let it ****ing die.

Blacdout96 09-04-2009 07:55 AM

The taillights are too close to each other, they need to spread them out to the ends a little more. that back panel though fits in there wierd, needs to mbe more flush. andthe trans am sign should be put lower , either just below the license plate, or on that panel I just discussed, not up on the wing. I like the direction they are goping, but to properly execute it, change some panels, not just the bumpers and rims.

Agreed.

Everything they are doing looks like **** and an aftermarket conversion.

Lets just make sure that we all know that this is not a GM piece, but an aftermaket piece.

There are plenty of idiots out there that will think it's truly a Firebird.

Slow-V6 09-04-2009 03:47 PM

I dont know about you all but I am content with owning the last year T/A ever produced!!

jims69camaro 09-04-2009 04:38 PM

they... just... won't... let... it... die...

kind of like michael jackson, only you don't have to worry about your juvenile child getting too close.

Saitin 09-04-2009 06:52 PM

transmaro93 09-04-2009 07:07 PM

say what you want... although its kinda gay its not a GM product.... i think a few of those pics look cool... mainly the ones designed after the 77-78 birds... the early 2nd gen design doesnt fit right... i think its pretty cool it the products are good quality... i have yet to see a decent aftermarket body part that has a good fit and finish... cervinis comes close but they still suck... companies like roush make nice stuff... if its good quality like that i dont see a problem with it... hey al.... does GM pay you to look out for them like that on the net...?? just curious ahahha....
