I vote Chinchilla. They are pretty expensive, and I think you have to go through some crap to get them, but for your situation thats what I would say. They don't smell, ferrets stink like any other rat. Either that or some type of fish/water critter. Just about anything else will smell or make noise. Or adopt a kid?
