I am glad that GM finally decided to give the Z/28 the green light.

However they should have taken a page out of the Mitsubishi play book and offered the Z/28 in a stripped down form like Mitsu did with the Evo VIII RS. I.E: no radio, no rear seat, less sound deadening material....blah blah blah....you all get my point. Add all the bells and whistles at a premium and make your money off the baby boomers with bad backs!!!

Don't get me wrong I will by one in 2011......but shortly after, that thing is gonna be put on diet!!! lol

not in my book. but then again, i am a true hot rodder. if it is not necessary to go fast or brake better, toss it. i don't need 17 cup holders.

amen. i don't need 17... oh, i said that. my '88 formula had roll up windows and manual locks. it was a true 'stripper', as it didn't even come with floor mats. if it doesn't make it go fast or stop better, toss it. it's going to be interesting to see how weight nazis can get rid of the excess in the '10 camaro.

p.s. mitsubishi was not the pioneer in stripper models. they only copied the page from a long unused book by chevy.

So you have no problem spending MORE money for LESS equipment?
Doesnt work like that. You want a race car, make one yourself.
People are gunna spend over 40k for this car.
GM knows how to remove weight. They cut a lot of weight off the C6 for the Z06, and while they did use an aluminum chassis and carbon fiber, GM knows how to cut 150lbs off this car.
Removal of some sound supression stuff could work. The Camaro is a VERY quiet car on the road. Cut weight on the exhaust by removing and retuning the exhaust. The mufflers alone could cut 40lbs off the car. So remove another 50 lbs of sound suppression.
Two piece rotors could cut a few pounds off each wheel. The SS's brakes are already massive and impressive.
Maybe an 18/19 wheel package too to cut down on the rotational weight, and move to a forged wheel.

150lbs I think, is an easy target. Lighter then a V6 car, more power then the V8 car, target in handling is teh M3.
The 2011 Mustang GT is aiming directly at the M3 in all aspects. IMO, the M3 is the benchmark for any and all coupes.

Sorry i didn't make my point clearly, I do have a problem with a 50K Z/28.....However like Mitsu did with the EVO, GM should offer a stripper Z/28 for enthusiasts at an SS1 price point......if you want a bunch of options add them on.....but Gm shouldn't assume that everyone wants a 12 speaker audio system, leather seats or even A/C...okay maybe A/c delete is a bit over kill....but hopefully you get my point now

I understand and agree to have the option of getting a stripped version if you know you really are going to use it for the purpose that it was built, or you can buy the loaded version so you can cruise it in at the local car gatherings, and show off all the bells, even thought the car will never see above 50mph in it's life.

I understand but I don't think that the Z28 will come standard with a fully loaded equipment list. Z06 doesn't so Imo GM had done a good job of that. .
