Depends on how serious you take your life and others around you when you drive, hence I say not everyone is like that.

Yea but part of it is to get young drivers, driving time with strict regulations so they don't get a full license and go buck wild on the stupid.

We can debate "why" questions until we are blue in the face, that won't help. The way I see it, provisional license is one's "try out" stage for a normal license, it is their duty to not mess up their "try out", if they do mess up they should face harsher consequences for their stupidity. As stated before, license is not a right; it's a privilege, granted by the state government, which I think should be earned. If an 18 year old can't follow simple provisional rules that are given to him at the same time as his provisional license, than he does not deserve such privilege.

Why are older, more experienced, drivers treated differently? Because they have passed their provisional requirements for their privilege to drive on state's roads. In my mind this is similar to a employment contract when one has a probation period when they are first hired for a job, if they mess up, it's good bye time - no questions asked most of the time. Even military has a version of this; you can sign up with a guaranteed chance to try out for the special forces. If you fail your selection you're going to the infantry... far, far cry from being an SF operative.


Maybe it seems harsh, but I like when people exercise personal responsibility.

its kind of like when you start a new job, most jobs have some sort of "probation" or "provisional" period of six months or a year or what have you. you can do things during this time and get fired for something that someone with more time at the job wouldnt even get a reprimand for.

you have to earn leniency and good favor, not expect it

about 28 years of experience. the provisional license was made to keep kids safe. the only reason we have provisional licenses is because the overwhelming statistics of kids in car accidents with their friends. i remember i was supposed to be one of the first people to get a cinderella license, the law makers were saying these are the top common denominators in teenage accidents...


Multiple kids in car - studies show that kids, with kids wanna act like kids. behind the wheel is no place for kids.

After hours - kids are inexperienced for night driving. also trying to cut down on teenage joy riding. lots of underage drinking goes on after hours too.



honestly i have a feeling that the multiple people in a car is just trying to deter the old tragedy everyone used to hear about ''car full of kids dead, jackassery suspected.''


im all for suspensions of licenses for provisional drivers. in japan they display stickers for different experience levels of driving. im all for that. that way the cop will know whether or not right off the bat that you are a provisional driver. it should be one of those vinyl magnet stickems. failure to showing the sticker should result in a boat load of fines, penaltys and loss of license...

well maybe its time for some good old discrimination. if they call it discrimination then i wouldnt mind putting a vinyl magnet sticker on the back of my car denoting that im an Experienced driver. :nod: that way everyone has a sticker, old, young and in between. i think maybe even stickers for drivers that have had a dui/dwi as well :nod:

too many American families share cars for that system to work. if the car is registered and insured to dad who has never had an infraction in many years of driving, why should it have a newb sticker?

Having friends in the car and having a license suspended for a year because you accidentally ran a stop sign are two completely different things. I don't mind certain restrictions with the provisional license but I was just playing devil's advocate with Tsar. The fact is 75mph in a 55mph zone is speeding regardless if you're 18, 30, or 75, that's all I was saying.

Yup and those kids had every right to cry out. If you open up the kids to having stickers on their car then every scumbag that has a DUI should get one, then anyone that has a careless or reckless driving charge should get one, then someone who runs stop signs should get one.....

"Experienced" doesn't make you a good driver. It just means you've been driving for a long time. You could be a horrible driver who drives aggressively, who drives like a total douche...it doesn't make you a "good" one. It just means you haven't been caught yet. :rofl::mrgreen:

I call BS on "accidentally" ran a stop sign. You just don't do that, unless one has a mental disability they should be aware of what their car is doing, and if they are not then they should not be driving. Everyone knows that they are suppose to come to a complete stop, if one chooses not to do it, it's their problem.

I'm not saying I've ever run a stop sign but go drive through areas of Philly and tell me how hard it is to see some stop signs. Obviously Philly has nothing to do with NJ but I'm using it as an example. It's easy as hell to persecute a group of people if you're not in that group. I highly doubt you'd just roll over and say "Oh, well, I made a simple mistake and now I'm going to lose my license".

Tsar, I can't wait until you get a ticket. Sometimes **** happens. Sometimes people make mistakes. Not everyone that has points on their license is some wild, out of control driver. We're all human.

With that said I have no points on my license, I consider myself a good driver with an occasional oops.

When I got to court, I told the judge I wanted to plead guilty and just pay the ticket. They kept postponing the court date so I just wanted to get it over with, and move on. He refused and said that I should go talk to the prosecutor so he can reduce my fine. I wasn't about to argue with a 105 year old judge so I went and he knocked it down to 186 bucks. Cop had nothing but good things to say about me, he said he'd let me go but his chief was one of the cars that pulled up after him, so I was SOL.. :lol: When I f**k up, I don't try to hide behind some excuse.
