Congrats. What did you guys do differently to cut off the 4 tenths of your previous best?

To start we took a full tenth off of our 60' (going to a softer compound tire may have helped) . We also went with an 8" converter to help with efficiency. On top of that we added American Racing headers 1 7/8". Unfortunately, we could not see a true gain because the transmission was slipping before the headers were installed. So the trans was rebuilt. Last, going speed density with the tune (no MAF restriction) and some fine tuning we picked up over 15 rwhp on our new 224x dynojet. He just ordered key weight reduction parts. I am confident results will improve December 3rd.

Sounds good. What RPM are you shifting at?

7000 around

TEKHAWK 11-13-2009 08:14 PM

Very nice job! The solid roller should help.
Were any of the nitrous cars there that you guys hang with?

I like the rubber on the bumper look. I'm probably painting the car this winter either hugger orange or medium blue metallic

I just don't want to go solid roller and have everyone saying its not cam only because its solid roller. The thunder car that has the record i'm pretty sure was hydrolic roller. Also, none of those nitrous cars were they're. Our friend Rick who has a 440 lsx + spray was suppose to go but he had a little bit of trouble with his tow vehicle.

sweetbmxrider 11-16-2009 07:28 PM

you guys should race vinny, he's heads/cam so he'll prob win :)

why don't you think about using a set of lunati lifters or caddy lifters.
the caddy lifters where developed by gm to withstand long & high rpm's they run these lifters for racing @7200-7400rpms.
even katech uses them in the motors they build for the cts races

The car will have a 440 lsx motor in it this spring and he doesn't want to run anyone untill around then

Lifters aren't the issue. I've been in contact with Shane from Thunder Racing(Co-owner). He is 100% positive that I am having valve float issues based on the dyno graphs I sent him. We're putting some new springs in with shims and we'll have it back on the dyno next week.

^ I was floating the lifters with my car... springs were fine.

regardless... that is a very impressive number and it is not cheap to go low 10s....

you fool, cam only is pertaining to whats done internally to the car.
so that means bolt ons + cam

stock internals means bolt ons and stock longblock

the fastest stock internal LS1 ran a 10.68@122mph on a 1.37 60' with a 3000 or sub 3000# raceweight, so a 10.3@129mph isnt hard to believe at all. nice pass!

I spoke to the co-owner of Thunder Racing, he told me that it is without a doubt valve float. While the springs that are currently in the car " were a good spring in their day but there are much better options out there now." Shane also told me that the cam only car that has the record was running stock lifters.

Cartek guys on ls1tech said the day was only -50 that day not -500. So if I see a -1500 DA December 3rd It will definately feel like a nitrous pass LOL
