im not trying to say that fbodies shouldnt be taken care of. sure like any other car they should get their oil filter changed every two weeks and ger their oil changed every 4-6 weeks and get washed for 3-4 hours straight on the weekend and then polished and waxed for another couple hours. and the interior should be cleaned with a q-tip and nail polish remover every so often. yet an fbody is nothing more then just a car and should be treated as such. when they were build and designed they were built and designed to be driven on a daily basis as daily drivers so why shouldnt they be used for their intended purpose? after all they are cars they are not an investment. if you want to invest in somthing sell the camaro to some one who will love it enough to drive the hell out of it and take that money to wall street or if you would rather have something to look at sell the camaro and go by some sort of statue to put in your garage somthing that has no other purpose but to be looked at and admired.

Well. Just IMO. AWD is way way better than RWD, and you know a huge ass stall and drag radials.

Edit: You can throw in the side curtain air bags, better brakes and a higher suspension too if you want. And or, you know, the value, both sentimentally and monetarily of the classic car versus a modern mass produced vehicle.

But hell, thats just my dumb selfs view.

"Should be driven" in all weather? Like I said...that's why most are rusted out pieces of ****. So by your theory there's no advantage or reason to drive a Hon-duh Civic in the winter over an Fbody? If you so no you're smoking some good ****.

Cars aren't meant to be beaten to the ground and then fixed up only to be ****boxed again...sorry but I take care of my stuff....as do quite a few members here. While my GTA needs paint since it was an outdoor car it's entire life it's still a straight bodied, reasonable sharp looking car...that's still holding strong at 142K miles with 8#'s of boost running through it....I don't plan on beating the snot out of it just to "fix it up again".

Maybe you don't value what you have, maybe your get off on beating the snot out of cars...good for you...but please don't give those that don't do that any problems...beating on cars was cool when we were 17.

...and you really have no basis for your argument. It seriously makes you look childish by thinking it's cool to beat the snot out of cars....keep on representing the stereotype...:D

...and who the F changes their oil filter every two weeks and their oil every 4? Also, since you want to act like you know everything...just because someone doesn't daily drive their Fbody doesn't mean it sits around and collects dust like you seem to think. I drive mine a few times a week unless it's ****** out...that's what the $300 Corsica is for...to soak up the abuse of daily driving or if I'm running around the block to get milk and bread. There's NO reason to fire up the GTA to drive a 1/2 mile to get some food. I don't know...maybe I grew up or value my stuff....either way you're barking up the wrong tree. You're looking silly.

what makes his camaro "better" than his other cars is the fact that he is an ENTHUSIAST his personal feelings and history with fbodys makes him feel that way...

Exactly. We are on this site because we like these cars. I too drive a honda in the winter. I don't see one as being better than the other, I would just rather have my Camaro remain as clean as possible.

Ok, since you asked…

Who brought up investments? I certainly did not. You are mixing me up with someone else, obviously. Anyone with half a brain knows cars in general are terrible investments.

The Z insurance does not allow me to drive it to work and also requires me to have a daily driver. And the QQ plates technically limit usage a lot, not that anyone has ever been called on that. Regular car insurance won’t work for an old car, with normal coverage if anything ever happened I’d get skinned financially. I have a responsibility to my family to protect the family funds. So while not an investment, it’s my responsibility to protect the value of something I might need to sell if the need arises. That includes not driving it in the snow or rain or into Camden – mostly out of fear of what others might do – door dings, fender scraps, theft, etc. So the collector plates & insurance technically dictates usage, and protecting asset value is a secondary concern. Enough of that.

Within those constraints, my car gets driven a lot. Based on a lot of what you’ve written over the years I bet it’s gotten more miles than any Camaro you’ve owned. But if not, who cares? Yes, IMO the other cars we use as daily drivers are far more disposable. Put it this way, if the pilot or olds got stolen today I could care less. I’d be more pissed about losing my GPS. I’d be a little angrier if the Camaro got stolen. Not because of the money, insurance covers that quite well. I’ve put a lot of time & effort into that car. My kids really like riding in it. It’s a bit special to them and I like that bonding time with them. It is also a bit therapeutic for me. A few hours in the garage are nice. I can work on the car, do repairs or upgrades and not worry about needing it to get to work the next day – I don’t have to do half-assed rigs to keep it going. I usually find working on it relaxing and enjoyable. Not as much as driving, but still nice. To recap, the Camaro gives me enjoyment, relaxation and bonding time with my sons.

I’d actually be real pissed if my truck got stolen. It has no theft insurance so I’d be out money too. Yeah, I have a truck too. I see our cars kind of as different shoes for different purposes. The Pilot is my wife’s, which explains that. My Olds is my DD, it’s relatively safe to drive with crumple zones, air bags, abs, wipers that actually clear rain, etc., and gets reasonable mileage, 20 local/28 hwy. My truck is simply a tool. It’s for schlepping around wood, rocks, mulch, whatever, boat anchor LS1s, whatever. It actually gets used by my friends too, who in turn help me out around the house, the garage, etc., kind of a barter deal. Am I bad for not DD’ing my truck too?

One last thought. Who are you to begrudge anyone on what they do with their property? Do you bitch about gun owners that never shoot them? Do you complain about people with spare bedrooms that never get used? Or jewelry that never gets worn? Or someone who owns 50 hats and only wears one of them? No, of course not. Hey, my baseball cards have been in storage for 20 years. Should I go get them out and start flipping them just because? How about boats? Do you begrudge boat owners? They get used in similar fashion, nice days, pleasure use, etc. Actually a somewhat decent analogy to owning a ‘collector’ car. Hell, a lot of boats get less usage than my car. Are boat owners just as stupid to you?

Sorry if I worked hard in school and got a good enough job to allow me a few minor guilty pleasures as long as I am responsible about it. Forgive my gluttony. Again, IMO if you don’t understand the enthusiast part of all this then you are on the wrong site.

Bonzo you wrote like a story. I almost finished my box of cheez-it's by the time i was done reading your small story:lol: but good points i understand what you mean and the value of your car (not in money wise). i think she should be garage kept.

Anti_Rice_Guy 12-22-2009 05:58 PM

Bonzo, that post was way too long, coherent and responsible for NJFBOA. Please ban yourself.

I'll be driving my Firebird throughout the winter. If I can avoid driving in the snow, and after salt and gravel has been spread, I will. I can work from my home office on bad weather days, so that helps keep it out of the crappy weather.

Already, Ive had trouble getting up my own driveway because of the open rear and snow. So tonight I dropped the car at a shop to have a TrueTrac and 3.73's installed.

Also ordered splash guards to keep paint chipping to a minimum from salt and gravel.

fmybody 12-22-2009 10:18 PM

DD crapped out yesterday.. perfect timing.. so im stuck with the SS for a few days minimum

HW72 12-22-2009 11:11 PM

I mostly drive my Camaro when the weather's alright. I don't intend on ever using it in the snow, especially since it's got MT E/T Street Radials on the back and a bunch of other stuff to make it tail-happy. I'd really like to steer clear of road salt. I only drive it in the rain when I have to. When I bought the car, it was raining the entire drive home from Long Island and I don't intend on being in that situation very often, although it did drive better than I expected on the drag radials. I kept it FAR under the limit.. lol. Unfortunately I don't have enough space in my garage, and I don't have a car cover... I should buy one.

Frosty 12-22-2009 11:25 PM

Well HW, you should sell yours according to good 'ol zeek....if you don't drive it every day it only collects dust....and you should sell it to someone who intends to run it into the ground.

:D
