The Z28 vs GT500 will have a pretty even playing field in weight and power. Its gunna come down to the details to decide this.

That Mustang looks just as big and heavy as the Camaro so it probably will be a pretty even matchup. The real crime is what both cars cost.

Nova SS RPO. It became the Rally when the SS was killed. Z27 was the SS package in a Camaro.

Gives some validity to Z28 being "next in line" of RPO codes.

Slow-V6 08-04-2010 09:16 AM

Damn I forgot how much GM used the Z name on there cars and trucks. I had a Z24 Cavy as well.

Winner!

BigAls87Z28 08-04-2010 11:55 AM

Z27 was SS trim for Camaro too. Z28 was next up.

Curb weight on a 2010 GT500 is 3,924
Curb weight on a 2011 GT500 is 3,820
Curb weight on a 2010 Camaro SS is 3860 (manual)

Hopefully the Z28 will come in pretty close on weight as compared to the SS, but we'll see.

The 2011 GT500 is rated at 550hp / 510 tq, the LSA in the CTS-V is rated at 556hp / 551 tq. So if Z28 gets the LSA with no changes, it'll basically be looking at decent torque advantage, hopefully not hindered by a bunch more weight.

A quick hint at what we can expect.
Remember that the CTS-V coupe while lighter then the sedan is still heavier then the GT500.

I saw a CTS-V sedan run 11.9 with nothing but drag radials. Very impressive!

You can't stop the HORSEPOWER WARS. Ford has put a built stop for the Mustang GT500 @ 5,000 units, because ALREADY half of that number has already been sold and they want to keep this model as exclusive as possible. It seems that the higher the horsepower goes, it has no limit as to what the public will PAY. Most of these models wind up as garage queens anyway!

I agree with you to a point but owning a Shelby GT500 is a pretty big deal and I understand why it gets sold out quickly and why ford wants to cap how many are being sold. Ford collectors will buy these cars up and put them next to there 60's GT500 in there garages.

The Z28 to me is just a high hp Z28. My brother bought a 98 Z28 for 6,000 4 years ago. He asked me why would he pay 10X's that for a new Z28? I couldnt give him any other answer but its a 550hpish car. His response to me was that his car is heads and cam and makes around 430rwhp and probably runs what a new Z28 will run in the 1/4 mid-high 11's.

But your brothers car doesn't come with 6 piston calipers and massive rotors or a 5/100k warranty does it.

No it doesnt. His car does have an aftermarket warranty on it but I dont know how many years or miles its for. I will pass that info along to him but I already know what he is going to say.

Don't forget better build quality but eh, meaningless details lol

It's cool that someone can buy a cheaper car and build it to a fast car, that's the awesome part of hot rodding...for some reason the domestic guys get a free pass for having that mentality but the kids that build a Hon-duh that beats up on a C6 are called ricers and that it's still a Hon-duh no matter what. Just a bit of irony I guess.
