All the GT500 is, is a big motor and old technology drivetrain. Hence it being cheaper. You are comparing a muscle car to a all around super car IMO. Only same area is the HP rating, which in this case makes the supposed muscle car look worse. |

I know what he said. Its proven technology that has stood up against time!! Corvette sales numbers have dropped over the past years. The C5 held a 30-40k vettes per year, and the C6 started out strong from 2006-2009 with 30-40k cars a year but after 2009 the numbers started to drop under 20,000 cars a year. A lot of the complaints with the C6 were that it was to different then the previous generation. A lot of complaints about the C7 is the same thing. As the price of the vettes have gone up, the sales numbers have dropped, The mustang has stayed pretty consistant over the years. Again though the GT500 traps 126-128mph in the 1/4 for 55,000 and the ZR1 trapps 130-133 in the 1/4 for 120,000.. You can say that the ZR1 is a much better car ( which it is ) but if thats the case why is GM willing to make the new Z06 better performing, and better all around for 30-40,000 less then the ZR1? You could have bought a 2012 ZR1 for 110,000 and resell it in 2015 for 45,000, if in fact the new Z06 is 79,000 brand new... Its gonna be great though for people looking for used C6's or even thoughs that want to get a new Stingray for 55,000 but see a used ZR1 for 42,000!! Or hell even a used C6 Z06 for 30,000.. I know the Mustang is not comparable to a Vette, and what not, which is why I am still kinda wonderring why Jeremy Clarkson didnt choose a C6 over a Mustang in a high speed, 800 miles race through winding, hilly roads? They choose a 55,000 mustang over a 50,000 Corvette.. |
I think you are referring to progress in terms of both performance and performance bang for the buck. This is something we all expect. Why would someone buy a C7 new at full price unless it was better than the C6 equivalent? If not, you would gravitate towards a used C6 or some other new car.
Personally I never liked the ZR1 and always thought a worked over C6 Z06 was going to be better at a lower price point. It's not hard to get a LS7 to 650hp, not to mention any forced induction on top of that if you have lofty goals. Time will tell about the C7s popularity and additional upgraded models. Every generation since the C5 has really got the attention of the more exotic performance cars out there - the 911T can barely match the new Z06 and it is a minimum $150K car (even the 991 Carrera is going to push $100k with 400hp). He didn't choose it. The car was picked because it was brand new and Ford gave it to him to drive and the C6 was old news. |
Yup, it's expensive but super bad ass!
At least we all can agree on one thing, they are still making awesome muscle cars (whatever the brand)! |
IMO the mustang is a straight line performance car. When you put the mustang against the Camaro in a road race the Camaro wins. What I like is GM is putting a lot of time and effort in actually testing there cars at the Nürburgring and showing the world that they have built cars that have supercar performance for a fraction of the cost.

I always thought the c6 was too similar to the c5 in terms of looks and general layout, hence the reason why I never really cared for them too much in terms of upgrading mine. My buddy and I both got rid of our c5's over the summer and he luckily scored a great deal on a c6. After driving it and feeling the ride quality and general fit/finish of the car, it is a definite upgrade from a c5 all around, and have been looking for one since. I prefer to score a c6 zo6 sometime in the near future as a few can be had for the mid-high 30's. As such, I would assume the c7 is an all around better car than the c6 it replaces. After sitting in one, they have improve the interior immensely which was always the downfall of the c5, and improved on the c6.
I still can't compare a stang or Camaro to a vette, just a different car all around. I daily-ed my vette for a few wks after getting rid of my truck over spring and hated it, where as I could tolerate a new stang/Camaro everyday (as I have done it before). |
thats one fine looking automobile. cant really find a fault with it except that its way out of my price range :D

Just saw a TV ad for Kerbeck Chevrolet (in A/C) and they showed an INDOOR showroom filled with brand new 2014 Stingrays, coupes and verts. They said they have 1,127 IN STOCK. That is crazy. Most dealers are thrilled to get 3-4 at this time. I would guess that if your looking to really buy one, that would be the place to get a deal.

No, corvette retards think there is prestige buying one there
