Sounds valid. I'm sure the state would immediately release all parties, with the court's apologies, upon hearing that compelling argument.

I like how everything has to do with the courts n the laws. Im not saying its safe, but it happens. I guess yall dont play with fireworks cause its illegal in nj and it could blow your hand off...

everyone does stupid things but the sheer amount of how many people were crowding that area where theres no barricades, no prep for the tires and what seems to be very high powered cars with amateur drivers (not professional) just seems like a recipe for disaster.

by comparison if regular street racing was akin to setting off fireworks, then what was witnessed in that 6 minute video I would liken it to chasing each other with Roman Candles and Bottle Rockets :D

sweetbmxrider 03-24-2014 07:19 AM

No, that was crowding a table of mortars.

Dudbird113 03-24-2014 10:21 AM

I know a handful of easy 9 sec cars that get down very well on the street with basically no prep.

If the event was something invitation only I think people would be more accepting. As things stand it is open to anyone that rocked up in whatever they happen to have. Since you know those 9 second cars and the drivers I'm sure you would be comfortable next to them but would you feel the same about some guy you've never met who may or may not know how to drive in a car that looks nice but may or may not have a chassis that is ready for the speeds the engine can propel it to? That is the dividing line and in a society that people are quick to sue for anything and everything it becomes a very broad dividing line between those willing to risk hosting such and event and those who won't.

You now have one foot over the line. Back off the street racing talk

Technically, what he talks about could be a legal racing event. A lot of places do offer no prep, basically street surface heads up racing, which I think is really cool. Back to a NHRA roots racing style.

Now was that what he was talking about? Most likely not, but gotta pretend.

sweetbmxrider 03-24-2014 12:15 PM

He said on the street, not on the track.

Mike 03-24-2014 12:55 PM

Matt I get it, but I also will play the odds on this and throw the warning, hence the one foot comment and not an infraction already

You're not married, are you? You don't own a house, do you? You don't have kids, do you? Because if you did, you might realize how stupid it is to risk your life standing that close/along these races. Race cars crash...that is a fact. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen. Do you know when it's going to happen? We've all done stupid things in our lives. God knows I have and I'm lucky to still be here. I have friends that haven't been so lucky and that is a sobering reality. Do I play everything safe? No, but I also try to manage the risk to the highest level possible. When I see something that screams STUPIDITY like this it leaves me shaking my head.

Hell yeah we do! NUGGETS4LIFES!!!!!!!!

We are in the mode of dying from the moment we are born.

But being reckless is a surefire way to get into that dirt covered box a lot quicker than you should.

I have a cousin (now an attorney) who ended up blowing 1/2 his left hand off with a homemade pipe bomb when he was 15. Hit real close to home on how fragile life is - he has a permanent reminder of how it bit him on the hand, literally.

The_Bishop 03-26-2014 06:49 AM

I've been in enough situations in the course of my life where seeing the next sunrise was questionable, so I try to avoid it when I can. Standing that close to a few tons of high powered vehicle piloted by questionable talent seems like a terrific way to get your ticket punched early.

In my experience, the asshats who 'organize' these things don't give two figs about safety or liability, and in general make the hotrodding/drag racing/hobbiest rest of us look bad. Stupid crap like this is why we are always losing venues for car shows and hangouts.
