I'm an operations foreman for a local school district. I belong to the NJEA union. I also met my wife at work. She is a teacher in the same district.

From an accounting point of view, you probably 'make' 20% more then that. And that is good for you. An a lot of unions have fringe benefits via Credit Unions, Pension Plans, etc., like reduced loan costs - that is a nice perk too. In the big pic, that matters. Your pay is often more then the paycheck reflects.

yea, i make out really good. for now, i don't pay medical or dental, i have a deferred comp option, i only have to work 25 years then get 65% pay for the rest of my life and paid medical for my family for the rest of my life.

as of 2 weeks from now,

i am going to be full time at gamestop...

if they continue to give raises/promotions as they have in my experience working there... things will be looking good with them within a few months..

cause all of there keyholders are college kids.. so they need someone to hold them keys while school is out of session... hahaha

but i wont be making more than 8...

pay sucks... job is great... borrow policy rules... free video games...

but unless your a manager, your getting dirt...

Raist103 07-26-2007 01:04 PM

i am not working as of now but am looking so if any one knows of some thing let me know please. :) i worked as a manager for drug emporium for 8yrs made around 43k year, that job was very bad but they would just give me more money to stay and then when they went bankrupt i worked for cpr a carpet repair restoration company we did flood work, fire rip outs, crime scene clean up and carpet cleaning/dyes. last year there made 800wk base plus 2% of all insurance money made by the company and 22% of all work done by me over the 800 base. made out pretty good most times. but the hrs sucked. lots of nights travel and weekends.

Hm, sounds intresting, ill haveto look into it. what kind of backround do you need? Igot both automotive and diesel experience, infact my diesel experience was for a truck rental/leasing company.

mudjnky 07-27-2007 03:36 PM

The more experience, the better the pay. We have a Heavy Truck department as well as light duty truck and car. If you have heavy diesel experience they want to put you in the HD department.

Blacdout96 07-27-2007 04:19 PM

I did Hino's ( nissans trucks) and Mitsubishi trucks. All the trucks were under CDL required, so i didnt needa CDL license. The biggest trucks we had was 26ft. box trucks, but nothing like 18 wheelers, or CDL trucks. ill have to give them a ring tho cause im sick of workign at Viking, their hours suck as much as their pay does lol, only thing goign for them is their benefits.

mudjnky 07-27-2007 04:54 PM

The best thing to do would be call and fill out an application

I just got a job.

My dad has a 2 family house and he rents the other side out. Well Hes going to pay me under the table for 2 weeks to finish his house up, siding, and wood trim in the kitchen, then raise the pay when I work in the side he rents up, hes gonna teach me plumbing, and everything Ill need to know, so when the day comes, I can take on the house and rent it out and know about all the stuff that might need fixin.

edit.

I also forgot, im gonna be working for my uncle doing odd jobs around his house so he can get top $$ for when he sells his house.

transmaro93 09-21-2007 04:39 PM

maken 12/hr as a mid level autobody tech... love the job but it has its up and down days.... the autobody industry is going down hill tho i picked the wrong thing to get into... but i enjoy it for the most part... insurance companies really messen stuff up... this buisness is not nearly at lucrative as it used to be... iv heard of people bringing home $1000-$1600 a week back in the 80's who now stuggle to bring home $500 because the insurance companies dont want to pay anymore and the cost of everything has just gone up its hard to keep up anymore...

bad64chevelle 09-21-2007 04:59 PM

Im making $100/day working for a handyman pretty much. We just finished painting a 1740s house in Crosswicks, and now kind of doing some odds and ends. If it continues next summer, I will be making $200/day but I will be working full time. This summer I didnt, because I was working at the gas station at the same time, making 8.25. 3days at the gas station 3 days painting. Now with school Ill probably only be working maybe 2 days a week, and maybe a few half days.
