But again, there are/were bigger issues that just Leighton.

The quote is around 16 paragraphs down.

You can be in position all you want if you are thinking pass you will play the pass!!

Yes actually I played Goalie in Highschool and a couple of years in the Navy! Probably played 6 yrs of goalie but I wasnt going to mention that because I cant compare what I did against the NHL!

Leighton looked solid on alot of shots in the Finals! But he did give up at least 1 weak goal in just about every game! At times he wasnt coming out to cut down angles, and His 5 hole was pretty wide open on alot of shots! Thats what you would expect as a backup goalie!

....but that's what he was, a backup goalie. ;)

We can go back and forth as to why he didn't make the save, the fact is he didn't and it was a fluke, he did the right thing and just didn't execute.

...and I thought you played for a while, that's why I asked. I remember you saying you did when you were up for a few car shows.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...ing-a-pass.php

How could he be doing the right thing when he said he thought it was a pass? I am not going back and forth with you about why he missed the save I am just reading from Leighton himself on why he missed the goal!

They lost in the Cup finals! It wasnt like the 2nd round or something its the Finals!! Was it cool when the Eagles lost the Superbowl that they could have won? After everything this team went through to get there and loose it like that on home ice! To have the other team come into game 6 Wed with the parade already setup for Friday, and for that team to beat you on a **** goal like that when you had all the momentum in the game! Thats what I am still heated about.. They skated around our home ice with there little Blackhawk flag and then talked **** on our fans for not cheering them when they were on the ice!! We cheered for them when the anounced that the cup was won by the Hawks but after that I aint cheering for you!

If that doesnt hurt you at all as a Philly fan then I dont know whats wrong with you!! This team will be rememberd as a team that withstood so much but in the end fell short! A team that wasnt suppose to be in the finals. Thats the way I will remember this team. Was a great run That ended on the worst goal I have ever seen to win a stanley cup. When my daughter asks me in the future about the 2010 Flyers thats what I will tell her. It was such a bad goal that only 2 players new it went in. the player that shot it and the goalie that gave it up!!

But he was still in position to make the save and just didn't. Regardless if he was anticipating pass he was still there, the puck went THROUGH him. As a goalie, you know, that's a big no-no for any reason. He let 2 go through him. When I played I'd get pissed if something went through me, I'd rather get beat if someone picked a corner or something, never through me. You can sit there an analyze every little part of why it happened....hell I'm more mad about the goal he let up on Sharp's shot.

As far as the 'hawks talking ****, they proved they're classless. Burish talked **** on Pronger after the game and said he'd punch him in the face...yeah...dude averaged 5 minutes a game in the Finals and had no points....real big force there

The fact is the ride was great and they came up short. They faced a slightly faster, slightly more skilled team. Goaltending was a big factor in their loss but it wasn't the WHOLE issue. I don't know how else to say it. Leighton let in a few soft goals, it happens. He's not the sole reason they lost, the game should have never gone to OT to begin with. A few players dissapeared and their D was just exhausted....Krichek(sp) needs to go, Parent needs to stay on the Phantoms and they need get a solid D man to relieve Pronger and Timonen, they're not young any more.

I tip my hat to the 'hawks, they earned this win and the cup. I'm not gonna rip the team or a player for the loss....no one(including myself) thought they would get this far. They played their asses off and came up a bit short. They played well above their potential IMO, got hot at the right time but they still have a ton of holes to fill. Leighton isn't a superstar, he isn't an elite goalie. He is a player that was picked up on waivers, a player that almost went to Europe to play since no NHL team wanted him. He is what he is. Flyers fans jumped on his back because he played well against a joke of a Habs team that weren't nearly as good as people thought they were. The Flyers finally played an offensive powerhouse and they were exposed. No one in the East that they faced had a great offense so it was no doubt a false sense of security.

I'm still mad about the loss, since I can't play the sport any more I kind of live through the Flyers when it comes to sports, it absolutely sucks that they lost on home ice, the way they did(like you said) but the bigger picture is that it was still a successful season. They can build on this, think of what they accomplished.

Such is the life of a Philly sports fan, they lead you to the edge of victory and just fall short. It happens but they win and lose as a team...and it was a team effort the entire season...that's the way I'm gonna look at it.

Its like in baseball. If you go to the plate thinking fastball and get a changeup you will not hit it and the ball will get by you. Your in position to hit the ball but your mind is focussed on another pitch and you miss the pitch that is thrown to you. If you a goalie and in your mind you think that the player is going to pass the puck and then he shoots it instead then the puck will go through you as well!

Leighton is a great backup goalie that got exposed in the finals and was pulled from 2 games because of it! I had a feeling that the season would end because of the goalies but not on a stupid, almost parralle shot on net like that was!!

On other news man the Phillies are doing bad right now!

Frosty 06-13-2010 02:08 PM

You're talking to an ex goalie ;) I know. But anticipation is also part of a goalies mindset but enough arguing. You keep keying in on him thinking pass....he was still in position to make the save and just didn't.

...and yeah the Phillies are just......horrible right now. They'll turn it around....at least that's what we've been saying for the last month.

NastyEllEssWon 06-13-2010 03:35 PM

flyers couldnt pass the puck for garbage

Yup and Hamels was one of my starting pitchers for my fantasy team so it was a win/win :)
