I believe the winter has killed my fish. I have a small koi pond. Maybe 6'x12' or so and ~2.5' deep. Ice tore a hole low in the liner, maybe 9" from the bottom, and while I have not seen it yet i know it is big enough that if I fill it it drains in hours. I can't fix it now with the cold & snow. they seemed ok last weekend but this sudden cold snap seems to have frozen a bunch of them. Poor fish.

elle 02-28-2014 03:55 PM

I thought it's normal for Koi to freeze in the ice?

BonzoHansen 02-28-2014 04:54 PM

they can't freeze in the ice. the top of the water can freeze over. but fish popsicles are bad.

Sorry to hear that. My parents have a decent sized one, we dug in when I was a littler pal. Its impressive what those fish can survive. We've got a blue herring that likes to eye them up but so far, have successfully chased him out of town. We lost a few of the big fish from sandy, they were maybe 10 years younger than me. They make those deicer disks that float at the surface fyi. I think my dad still uses it.

idk I liked my boss's trout. one of them was a whopper, measured 92" on my 'tall tales' measuring stick (aka 13").

I have one but because of the leak there isn't enough water now

So, lots of snow being called for.

Why did I move away from the coast. Damn it.

Because you can't live under the umbrella of protection that mommy and daddy provide forever unless you are really lucky!

Parents live in in DE...

Looks like we're not getting much in Hunterdon Cty. Kinda glad, I need the grass to start growing!

The_Bishop 03-02-2014 03:13 PM

Elle, told you. Beware the storm-overhyping! ;)

And that has what to do with my statement?

BonzoHansen 03-02-2014 07:22 PM

snow blower is officially scrap metal. we are getting 5 feet of snow.

sweetbmxrider 03-02-2014 07:47 PM

Horse is in stable, ready to plow the land.

The_Bishop 03-02-2014 08:41 PM

Bonzo, what's broken on it?

BonzoHansen 03-02-2014 08:48 PM

dunno, sometime inside rattled then it stopped. now the pull string pulls real easy. not wasting time to dismantle. I assume the brief time at WOT when the governor broke was the last straw. it's from 1988 it's time to replace. and Tecumseh no longer makes engines

maroman88 03-03-2014 01:11 AM

ha mines out for the garbage as we speak, not bad considering i found it in the garbage 3 years ago.

Replace it with a harbor freight engine to get by the rest of winter...

LTb1ow 03-03-2014 07:15 AM

Another over-hyped storm for my area..

Broke the connecting rod.

Not unheard of to see snow blowers 30 + years old and in great shape.

I'll have brand new Simplicity and Snapper blowers come late summer/early fall. Let me know when you decide what you're looking for.

elle 03-03-2014 07:37 AM

I may even get some trade ins with people looking to up grade.
