Speaking of bringing back names, I wonder if the new Holden VF Commodore Sportwagon and Commodore Ute will make it over here as the "El Camino" and "Nomad"...

Ute rumors have been around since the gto came. I think al actually asked the execs a few years ago.

Nocamino

Wagon is a thought though. They did it with cts so they must feel it has a place

BigAls87Z28 02-27-2013 12:29 AM

The Ute almost made it. When I say almost, I think they were at one point ON a boat.
Pontiac had a giant naming competition on line for it as well, eventually settling on ST. It won't make it here as an Elky, and the wagon...ahahahah, so adorable.

ins0mnia24 02-27-2013 01:41 AM

Makes me want a Caprice instead even more now, low 20k with less then 10k miles

Get them while you can this will be 1,2,3 years on the market and gone if that like usual.

NastyEllEssWon 02-27-2013 02:54 AM

that wagon is pretty sharp though. i wouldnt mind having a hopped up wagon. always been a fan of off beat cars :D I'd still rather have a charger though

I think what you dont realize is that Dodge/Chrylser is equal to crap. IMO It should have died in the 80's before the K car came out. All the other Dodge products I have interacted with are barely worth the scrap weight they are made from.

While I agree with Scott on most of what was said about the Charger, I have to admit, I kind of like the re-designed body now. That said, I would NEVER buy one, been in one/drove it, it truly is crap

You said that, nothing about price. The v's are expensive. And they are the nicest v8 american sedan on the market. Like Mike said, lulz at comparing a charger to a caddy. They are worlds away from it. You even said you'd be looking at other cars at that point. Why? Because they are worlds away.

In my opinion and many others the new 04-06 GTO did not live up to its name sake at all. I was all excited to possible buy a 04 GTO and get rid of my firebird but when I saw it in person it looked like a cavalier. When the 05-06's came out, they looked better but even with the LS2 my T/A was still faster stock vs stock.

When I think Pontiac I think of bad ass cars that would haul ass and beat down other car companies cars. The 04-06 GTO did not complete this task for me, Even the 08-09 G8's didnt as well but they were a family sedan. Pontiac went from selling 30,000 Firebirds in 2002, to 40,000 GTO's in a 3 year run. Why is that? If the GTO was such a better car why did it sell so bad? Why in 06 was GM just trying to get rid of the GTO's that were not selling?

If your a Performance car company like the way I saw pontiac, and do not have a performance car to offer then how do you expect to survive? Why did they put all there eggs into one basket?

Mike 02-27-2013 07:33 AM

Hard to justify designing new performance cars when you are operating on 40 billion dollars given to you by an entity that is forcing higher fuel economy

sweetbmxrider 02-27-2013 07:36 AM

Yeah, I think a lot of people forgot that the performance car market especially a 4 door car is probably the smallest slice of the market. People care about MPG's.

What were you expecting? IMO it DID live up to it's namesake,as others have pointed out, The original GTO was a family car with a big engine. They could have been bought as 4 doors, although the GTO was actually a trim package of the LeMans. So GTO was a hopped up version of the family beater. The latest version was really just that, minus the 4 door versions of a "LeMans"

Again, I don't think you understand why Pontiac was killed. Pontiac was NOT a performance car maker. GM is almost its largest competitor with so many brands. Pontiac and Buick, as GM saw it, were directly in competition with each other. I would agree with that too. But then GM said "Well Buick sells more car world wide", logically there was no question on what to do about Pontiac when you are going through bankruptcy, kill the brand that sells less vehicles.
So your thought line of Building "bad ass" cars doesn't really work when Buick sold more than Pontiac. and Really, Pontiac really hasnt had its own car since the early 60's? After that basically all Pontiac's were re-branded Chevy/GM platforms.

I hear you. Its just my opinion. I put a 06 GTO next to my Uncles 69 GTO and there is no comparision on which car is a GTO and should be called a GTO. Who bought Pontiac cars? Pontiac people. My Uncle, who bought his 69 GTO brand new, was very excited about the 04 GTO but when we went to look at it @ the dealership, he was pissed and couldnt believe that GM would call that Cavalier a GTO! He, like me were prepared to buy one but because of the way it looked we did not.

Once again I am not gonna drop 30 grand on a car that I do not like the looks of. Dont get me wrong both The 04-06 GTO's and the new Chevy here in this thread are really nice cars but just dont do it for me looks wise.

Mike 02-27-2013 08:22 AM

You are arguing your personal opinion as if it were a statement of fact. It's just going to go around and around. Can we all quit?

Sure can. 1 last thing though. Did the GTO sell better when they added some hood scoops and 2 pipes out the back?

Chevy has nothing to worry about because they have the Camaro and Vette. This car will sell and does not need to be aggressive looking. If you want aggressive looks get a Camaro or Vette. Pontiac didnt have that option when the GTO came back out. If you wanted a performance car from Pontiac or Chevy it was the GTO, SSR, or Vette.

BTW that station wagon looks pretty sweet.

WildBillyT 02-27-2013 09:06 AM

I wonder how much more an "aggressive look" would add to the price.

You can call it hood scoops and exhaust tips. I can call it 50 more HP.

I still stand by what i said there and in the response after it. I think the new charger looks much nicer than a cts-v. the V is aggressive looking but im not a fan of sharp edges.

lol im guessing an extra 15 grand :D providing it came with the lsa like mike was talking about. however that Wagon with an lsa in it...would be pretty awesome :D

i dont understand why everyone calls it a scoop and tip package. they changed the damn motor in them :D

edit: i dont know many people or have had much experience with new Dodge/Chrys products but I havent seen anything horribly degrading to their brand in the last few years. I will say though the reason why im still holding out hope for GM to drop something worthwhile to test driving to me is simply because im pretty familiar with whats under body. :D

Mike 02-27-2013 03:56 PM

nasty you can say you prefer the looks of the charger to the cts all you want, but the cars aren't in the same class man

No.

2004 - 15,740
2005 - 11,069
2006 - 13,948

So the aggressive look and the 50 extra hp actually had a bad effect on the sales numbers. Interesting.

oh of course i already made mention of the fact that if i was in a cts v price range there would be a whole new world of cars opened up to consider for purchase. probably the same reason why i wasnt even considering looking at one in the first place because they dont show up within my price range ;)

either way, im still disappointed in chevy's unveiling of this offering. i'll still hold out hope that it looks decent in person.

sweetbmxrider 02-27-2013 07:27 PM

I just wish they didn't have that bonk on the front grill.

Again not debating what you would buy. You said the challenger is the best American performance sedan. It. In fact. Is NOT
