yea so as most of you heard my computer crapped out on me and my dad is letting me use his credit card to buy all new ****. this list may grow between now and tomorrow, but this is what im gonna get:
Asus A8N-SLI AMD 64 x2 3800 ThermalTake Polo 735 Rev. 2 3 in 1 CPU fan Kingston DDR400 1GB dual channel kit CAS Latency=2 :D cost=my soul ($700) the only old things im putting in it are my Western Digital 800JB (80GB IDE), Maxtor Diamond Max +9 (80GB SATA), Plextor CD/4x DVD Burner (P.O.S. never buying a plextor again), and an Lite-On 48x CD-RW Burner/DVD Reader. After I get all this **** payed off, the next thing on my list is a new case. the one i have now has like the bare minimum for cooling (1 exhaust fan) |

and why the hell does the amd x2 have to be so damn expensive? the cheapest i found the 3800 for was $296 from some place in edison (nj) |
Dual core man....you're actually buying 2 CPUs on one chip.
I would spring for more ram. 2GB FTW.... What PSU are you going with? - Justin |
i just bought the amd off of ebay for $265 (not including shipping) as for the PSU im glad you asked since i was unsure if i needed a new one or not. i have the OEM PSU that came with my case when i bought it back in 02 or 03 and was wondering if i needed to upgrade it, i was gonna upgrade it then i realized that with just the necessities i was already around $700
these are the cheapest prices ive found so far (im gonna order them within the next hour prolly) Asus A8N-SLI $113 AMD 64 x2 3800 $265 (ebay, already won) Thermaltake Polo 735 Rev. 2 Heatsink $40 Kingston DDR400 512mb Dual Channel Kit $92.50 w/$15 rebate (i can upgrade to 1.5 or 2gb later this is just to get me started  ) Nvidia GeForce 7600GT $180 i was originally gonna get the 7600GS but then i realized it was 160 or so mhz slower then the GT and had DDR2 instead of GDDR3, i figured he'll for the extra $30 i go for it. i was thinking about overclocking the GS and save about $30 but then found out that it was only passively cooled :( As for the PSU i wanna get one of the modular ones so i can connect the cords i dont use. i always hated having like 5 or 10 unused molex plugs cluttering up the case. back in march when i was going to new orleans i an issue of computer power user and they had a review in there where they tested out about 10 PSUs, i'll prolly buy one of the ones they listed in there. one thing that suprised the hell outta me is this one company makes a 1KW PSU  why would u ever need 1000 watts of power??! damn im gonna end up spending about $800 on this :? i told my dad it was gonna be around $500 or $600. i was gonna order the sound blaster X-FI xtreme music until i realized i was a lil over $800 w/o a PSU added in... |
replace the flux capacitor!! actually, use it for your car so you can actually beat me... or so you can evade the tow trucks ;) and so you don't nearly crash head on into cops...
|
in my defence he almost hit me! i heard the siren but didnt see the car so i figured it was comming from the other way, then i pulled out and bam there he is flying down the sidewalk! so i figured he'd be smart and go along side of me, but noo he had to be a dumbass and cut right infront of me!
and as of now i am officially $692.57 in debt :? but i have all the stuff i listed comming to me. should i order a new PSU justin or can i wait on that?? |

Meh.
No 7800GT, 3+ GB ram no care |
this is just for starters koll, more ram will come in due time :D as for the 7800GT i couldnt justify spending $250+ when i dont really game that much....
im gonna need a copy of XP Pro 64 bit any one care to "loan" me a copy? i havent had windows installed on my computer here for this whole year (september to now) since the stupid internet authentication was a POS and wouldnt let me online cuz it said i didnt have all of the updates when i did, so i was like screw it im goin to linux! but now since im gonna have a beast (well compared to my current one it is) im gonna have to install winblows to play games, 10 gb for windows 140+gb for linux.... yea that sounds right... btw now that im thinkin of it does anyone know if there are any windows drivers out there that support writing to ext3 filesystems? cuz all my stuff is either reiserFS or ext3.... ntfs=teh sux0r |
how about you just use windows and have less problems with running anything you want?
btw youre a horrible driver |

So, Brandon ... I hope ur not running an Nvidia GFX product on that... I am anti-nvidia and speak highly of ATI cuz I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

@noah: the board has an nvidia chipset and if u look above i bought a geforce 7600GT, ive had both nvidia and ATI and havent had problems with either of them |
Tim was probably scared and shut his eyes, lol

but on a more serious note, swerving through traffic = ricer moves. dont do it |
yea ik...
|
x2 if somone has an iso of win xp 64 bit i can grab
|
XP 64 may or may not be in my binder at home.... ;)
and ATI cards are great....but their drivers haven't improved as much as everyone says they have. Card will only perform as well as the drivers let it. Nvidia FTW! Garrett just got a new modular PSU that supposed to be really good. I'll ask him what kind it is and get back to you later with it. - Justin |
