7 and 8 toast?
This is what I found when I took the intake manifold off to do the cam.

the heads makes me think the oil wasnt changed for about 50k miles. that is disgusting
and all that dirt and crap...looks like the intake manifold gasket was leaking coolant into the motor |
you should have rane the engine with engine flush to get the gunk out
|
I beleive it, I actually think the oil was the original oil before I changed it. wich would have been 92k miles. I am 100% sure the oil was 10+ years old. It couldnt spin a tire before i changed the oil..I burned out of the garage after I changed the oil.
|
Engine flush is bad stuff. It loosens the crap up and at best it opens up gasket leaks. But normally it loosens up crap & kills bearings and such. Bad bad bad.
Plug all the drain backs with rags & clean it up best you can. Put it together & hope for the best. Change the oil often (I'd use regualr oil, not synth, and high qual wix/napa or k&n filters. Right after cam break in. Again 30 minutes later. Then again. Then for a while change the filter every 1000miles/20hours running time and the oil every 3rd time. Or start looking for a good 350 core. Which, since you are 14, you have time to do. Maybe a late model roller out of a truck. |
those are your coolant ports, not your exhaust ports
|
just to let you know, that last opening with the coolant in it, thats the coolant crossover, thats not the #7 intake port. also the one built up with carbo i believe is an exhaust crossover for the EGR and thats common to build up, your 7 and 8 are fine.
but as for the sludge by the springs and rockers, yeah thats pretty bad. edit: dahm tim beat me to it, lol, i took too logn to type |
o but it shouldnt be all sludgey like that right? how Do I clear it out?

On a serious note, the oil does look bad..I would buy cheap oil at first and change it a few times after you've run the car for a bit. ~Ted |
FLUSH THE COOLING SYSTEM OUT EVERY DAY WITH FRESH WATER FOR A WEEK LUCKY ITS NOT COLD THAN FILL WITH GOOD ANTI FREEZE LIKE PRESTONE AND FORGET THE OIL THING CHANGE IT EVERY 4000 WITH A FILTER USE A GOOD OIL LIKE CASTROL OR MOBIL AND JUST FORGET IT NOTHING YOU CAN DO ANYWAY JZ
|
how do I flush the cooling system?
and really I did throw up, it was so discusting! |
John, I just figure he is going to loosen **** up, so changing the filter a bit excessively at first to keep the filter clean. Filters are cheap. Although most of it will bypass the filter anyway. :)
|
IMO just try wiping it all out, put a rag at the bottom of the lifter valley and go to town until its all clean, thats your best bet. Ive seen a few motors like that and without complete disassembly itll never be perfect, but to leave it? not something i'd do.

ideas of how it happened?

we use a car filter on our safty kleen machine the cheeper mal mart filters THE BLACK ONES last longer months longer than say a fram that cloggs in a week so i would use those for a while and you are correct the by pass will open and thats why motor is so dirty anyway i have seen thousands like this and have found not to disturb anything just drive it as long as it will last and it will in all probility last quite a while in a perfect world it would be torn to the screws but its not for a novice and a crate motor is a way better deal its new and has a garr one year i think but the car has to be worth it and he talked about a fire under the hood its already on the it might be junk so maybe who is to say did he go to an auto school does he have any experence with any of this i learned this way taking stuff apart and trying to get it to run again i think it was the third or fourth car before i got any place hahahahahah jz |
no auto school Im 14 I got time. so when I get her running again change the oil like every week?

dont bother if you cant drive it just do a simple cheep oil filter change and be careful about the driveway it will stain and mom will not be impressed put plenty of news paper every where so as not to crap up the area you are working in and than it will end up on her carpet not a good thing TRUST ME do your best at keeping everything clean as possable no shoes in the house it will make owning a car much easer like you now have jz |
I know I think this time I will just fork out the money for a good drain pan, and I dont like to wear shoes any way, i only where them when outa the house, i work on my car in socks unless it gets to hot for my feet.

Welcome to the world of 305 boat anchors.
|
wear shoes when you work on a car, or any machine for that matter. teh number of steel/sharp/heavy things that you can drop/step on more than justifies their use.
|
flip flops?

one of our race motors was named 9 toes yep you guessed it the block spun around while in the engine stand and the 75 pound crank came out of it and landed on my left foot a week later they took off my middle toe wow you cant even believe how much that hurt and still does in damp weather i always wore sneakers in the shop jz |
<<<looks around for mechanic socks!!
