Hey Wayfast...read this now
Sears has some nice sales on tools that would be good for you. Check today's paper, it appears to be Saturday 9/30 only.
$298 - 33G/150PSI compressor, 1/2" impact wrench (gun), 3/8" ratchet, air hammer, 25' hose. Go jump on it. Real good deal for a starter set. It might not paint cars, but you are years away from that anyway. I think this is an all day deal. The compressor is $30 off, and the tool kit is usually $100. Then you just need a spark plug adapter (like $15) and a valve spring tool (like antoher $12) and you can do your valve springs on the car. Also, some 50% of deals from 9am-noon on Saturday, including $49.99 for 104 pc 'mechanic's tool set'. |

Ill go tonight or tomorrow, if I work.
I might get a air compressor from justin though.. edit some one said, I could put a spark plug wire in the cylnder from keeping the valve from dropping.. true? |
|
what would the actual process be to do the spark plug wire thing?
wich spot would I put it in? lol sounds like something different |

i did my ls1 springs on the motor by just putting each cylinder to TDC one at a time. once the spring was off, i could letr the valve go down a little, then install the new spring, with it at TDC, it couldnt go far enough down to matter any.
|
How will I know when its on top dead center? will I have to put my lifters, pushrods back on? then take them off? I really hope I dont F this up..
|
get a piston stop tool, you screw it into where the spark plug goes, then turn the crank until it stops, turn it by hand slowly. you can then back the stop tool in and out to find out when the spiston is all the way up. i used to tool for the 1st time on my ls1 and i got the hang of it fast

If you take a straight edge and place it across the front engine pulley and mark it in 4s like cutting a pie in 4 equal pieces do this when you have set it on the scribed timing mark on the pulley with your timing pointer ----and 2 cylinders will be on TDC the #1 and # 6 than each time you turn the motor as you look at it from the front of the car clockwise to the next line you made on the pulley - ( 90 degrees ) the next pair of cylinders will be at TDC ( firing order ) 18436572 so if you started at #1 than the next would be #8 and #5 -- than #4 and #7 and #3 and #2 --- i hope u get this it sounds harder than it is -- think about what is going on when you do this -- now the plug wire and or a rope as some have used can be put into the cylinder but it will work better if you install it about an inch from the line as you are turning it that continue to the line as it will better fill the cylinder with the plug wire / rope droping the valve down onto the top of the piston is not a good idea for a novis -- i think you might be changing the springs maybe but we wont go their hope it works for you --- jz |
I was 16 min late for the sale!!

ill see if I find the link |
The 15g 1.5hp one with the 3\8" ratchet & some accessories? Also in today's paper for $198. For the extra $100, the larger one has much better SCFM numbers (not that you are doing any major sanding/blasting/painting with either) and more tools.

I really dont know if Im ready to spend 300 bucks on something ill use like 3 times a year.. but I supose if i got one that can paint, I can fix SOME paint isues.. |
Neither will effectively paint. I'm just saying the extra $100 is not really an extra $100 when you add in the tools. IMO, starting from scratch, the $298 is a 100% better deal.
|
How acurate, are the cards at sears, that says what they can do?
I really want to get my car runing, how ever, if I get the air compressor that said good for painting, hell Im gonna paint my engine bay body color and fix a few paint isues.. |
Forget paint.
|
f the valve springs then.. ill just try to line up cam and crank slap everything together and send it to a mechanic for 1 month.. to put the springs in and do the wiring harness

I can't believe any decent tech would waste 10 minutes on an engine that is partially disasembled. I wouldn't have even entertained the thought in my day.
