For or against the recent forum changes?

Just wanted to see where everyone stands.

IROCdan330 02-14-2007 04:44 AM

where is the "oh s*** i didnt even notice any changes" option?

Rich189 02-14-2007 05:06 AM

i have to say for the most part i agree with them.... main reason being because we still have the basement to screw around with and the money they make from joining the basement is just going right back into the club so i really dont have a problem paying

WayFast84 02-14-2007 05:19 AM

Im for the changes, I wouldnt have a problem paying for the basement except

1. I dont have any money, except for what I save up for car parts.

and

2. Even If I did pay I wouldnt be allowed in it anyway.

Where is the "who cares" option. I think too many people are making too big a deal about it. They aren't asking for your blood, they just want people to act more mature.

Exactly. But it appears there are a lot of immature people who can't converse without cursing, arguing or flaming other people for no reason. Almost every car board on the web has even stricter rules than what they have put in place here. You can't go through life acting like an @ss forever. The new rules put this board more in line with all the others out there.

X4. I fail to see why this is such a problem.

I agree ,alot of boards are more strict we actually have alot of freedom here.Other boards have a problem with people cursing but they also have a problem with people using terms like "ricer" which seems kind of ridiculous.

The degree to which someone disagrees with the rules is indirectly proportional to the age of the disagreer.

Youth rebellion!

Im all for these new rules...some people are taking it way out of hand, and its the same people that have been spoken to about the way they act on the boards. Joking around with someone you know is one thing, maliciously acting towards other members is another.

and that is an important dividing line that is very very difficult to try to moderate.
with so many memebers from so many differnet areas, there is no way anyone can be expected to know exactly who is freinds with who and what jokes can be taken as offensive or out of context.
that is why, when the rules are enforced, we make every effort to be consistant. trying to change our moderation based on who is or isn't friends with whom would jsut lead to drama and more finger pointing.

Well said. I'm all for the new rules!

Mike 02-14-2007 02:57 PM

the new rules, and growth as a reason behind them are fine. but many people have their underpants in WAY too big a twist over this no matter which side your on. whos to say a stupid pollitical or bench racing conversation dosent offend me as much as cursing offends you? yet they stay and language goes to a kindergarden level. the language used here is no different than the language used in american culture EVERY DAY and i challenge everyone that says that there should be no profanity to this bet...

every time you curse at a meet or in some real life club event, give tim and justin 5 bucks. they would make some real money there (much of it out of their own pockets)...

and a big thing is people being worried about "not safe for work" or "not safe for school" material.....well maybe you should be doing your job, or your classwork instead of surfing a car forum....

not ment to be an a******, just to play devils advocate

Brando56894 02-14-2007 03:56 PM

im for most of them

It's not about being safe for work, school or home. It's about attracting new members and possible sponsors. Nobody is going to join or support the club when it's nothing but a bunch of kids cursing at each other. It's already been stated that some potential sponsors have stopped by to visit and had no interest because of what was going on. And no matter what any of us really thinks, it's Tim and Justin's site to determine how they want to run it. If you guys need to curse and make fun of each other so much then start a new board dedicated to cursing and attacking each other. It's not really that hard to act like an adult, heck if Jimmy can do it than anyody can! :)

Mike 02-14-2007 04:15 PM

sorry jeff but i managed to post without using the phrase "you guys" so ill take that as a direct attack and ask that the post deleted and thread locked. THAT is where the rules get excessive. and like i said in the part you DIDNT quote, the rules and the reasons behind them are fine with me.

Mike 02-14-2007 04:16 PM

and ive asked to be banned and ive asked to be booted, but since they told me no, how can i be forced to change?

Your point makes sense, but using NWS as a 'standard' is more about keeping it clean vs. actual work surfing (discounting my lunchtime and waiting-for-systems time antics :p ). A lot of jobs you can't walk around cursing all day - you would be fired. So there is some rough standard there.
