Whats your current pay hourly/salary and do you like your job? Also NJ in general?

Well I ask this because over the past 5 years i have run into and worked with alot of people from out of state also in state and they all complained how expensive NJ was. It kinda made me think about things, high insurance, property taxes etc. I'm also pretty sure the general cost of living is alot higher than other states and I'm sure some of you guys up around the NY/NJ border prob see some super high prices on things. I'm a Union Carpenter and currently make $36.76 a hr and i can't say i absolutely hate my job but the money is ok but i'd rather not work at all lol. How about you guys. I would really like to move to the Ft. Lauderdale area and drive around in a droptop Vette if i could have it my way!

How long have you been in the union? Its defiantly some thing I'm going to be interested in when I'm out of high school.

EchoMirage 07-21-2007 11:39 PM

I'll be at $43.08 come sept. union pipefitter. not the greatest job/conditions/people......but there are worse.

transamkid 07-21-2007 11:43 PM

yea, I can honestly say the Union is a good thing. You will learn tons of **** on every Job. Also you will learn stuff to make you cash on the side doing side work for people. I have been in 5 years. I came in with 0 experience and starting pay back then was 12.00. Now with no experience starting pay is 15.10 and raises every 6 months until you reach rate and finish apprentice school

Damn, I'm cool with a few pipefitters I see from job to job. Is that you guys Foreman rate? I know Carpenters in NJ are one of the lower paid trades at $36.76 and we just got this raise a few months back. Electrician rate has been the highest for quite awhile

i make $100 a day doing roofing... some days when im actually doing the roofing (mainly flat roofs) they are LONG days. other days i just have to clean up the job site... and i can be done in a few hours, so it evens out.
i love my job. it gets me in shape, it teaches me a valuable trade, and the people are all 23-25 years old and fun guys.

one of my friends is a union welder... and he makes something like $42 an hour... which isnt bad at all when youre 19 years old and a fulltime student!

maroman88 07-22-2007 01:44 AM

I make 14.30 an hour at my job. I'm a chrysler tech. I've only been there 2 1/2 years and I havent finished all the BS crysler courses so thats why its so low. I'd be making more per paycheck if I was flat rate...stupid hourly pay rate.

ryanfx 07-22-2007 02:41 AM

Rich189 07-22-2007 03:56 AM

trashman01 07-22-2007 06:59 AM

i make 11$ an hour as a garbage man but i live in ct, and CT is alot more expensive then jersey

deadtrend1 07-22-2007 07:23 AM

Around $16.00 in shipping/receiving at my work. Would be lower if I didn't have a CDL. Least amount of work a week on average is 55-60 hours so basically 15-20 hours every week at time and a half is a good thing .... :)

Batman 07-22-2007 08:05 AM

Uncle Sam pays pretty well, I make about $75-85,000 a year depending on how much I fly, and as lons a I keep going bad places it is all tax free. Downside is that living in NY where I do I need to make about double that to live comfortably. Anyone who is complaining about prices in Jersey can come up here and pay $3.75 for a gallon of 93 octane. Also average property taxes here are abput $8-11,000 dollars a year, glad I have acondo :)

no, thats standard journeyman's rate. foreman is $46, GF is $49. most people never realize you dont have to be a yuppie sitting in an office to make good money.

bubba428 07-22-2007 08:11 AM

I get around $11 to change tires

misterjuice 07-22-2007 09:07 AM

Although my current job is seasonal with Scotts, my boss has managed to keep me longer then expected. I'm currently making $14 an hour working merchandising for Scott's/Miracle Grow @ 6 Home Depot locations in my area.

The money is great, the other guy I work with is awesome, my boss is great to us, and the hours are perfect. I just hope I can stay on through the rest of the year even if its part time.
