MTV Poll

I remember back when they actually played music, and knew the pulse of the music industry. Now it seems like they are all ads and TV shows, and if you aren't into pop music or rap then you're out of luck.

What do you guys think? Still relavent to music or past its prime?

baddest434 09-13-2007 02:32 PM

actually i get like 5 different MTV channels that play all types of music videos but i don't watch any of them. when it first started MTV was great but now it just sucks.

WildBillyT 09-13-2007 02:34 PM

Ah, good point. I am talking about regular MTV, not the satellite channels.

WayFast84 09-13-2007 02:38 PM

I think its more about stuck up bitches in California...

Untamed 09-13-2007 03:01 PM

Its all about reality TV with younger (20-somethings) participants, drawing in even younger viewers (teenagers). It's definately geared towards fashion and modern, urban culture (which is nothing new) but without the actual music videos. There's definately a hip-hop, pop, rap theme throughout now.

I miss Headbangers Ball.

I remember the old days with Beavis and Butthead and when they actually played videos. I don't even stop on that channel while surfing.

1_Hot_SOM_WS6 09-13-2007 08:17 PM

They can never play a full song!!! TRL doesn't even play a full song...it's kinda annoying!

shane27 09-13-2007 08:53 PM

TheBandit 09-14-2007 03:14 PM

trashman01 09-14-2007 03:27 PM

MTV? no, CMT/GAC yes, besides trick my truck is better then pimp my ride, i remember they did a civic and pretty much used bondo to build the body line back into the car where the door met

Anti_Rice_Guy 09-14-2007 04:06 PM

What's GAC?

trashman01 09-14-2007 04:56 PM

great american country

jims69camaro 09-14-2007 09:05 PM

i watched Mtv all day long when it first came out, trying to catch a video i hadn't seen before. but, video killed the radio star because love is a battlefield and it cuts like a knife. hit me with your best shot while i'm on a mexican radio, with tush, legs and a sleeping bag in the summer of '69. to say the least, i am part of the Mtv generation. VJs downtown julie brown, martha quinn, JJ jackson, nina, alan, mark...?

headbanger's ball sucks. you can still find it occasionally on one of the satellite channels, but it's nothing like it used to be.

Brando56894 09-15-2007 05:21 PM

mtv is no longer about music, the only time i ever see full videos playing are during "after hours" at like 4 am

I'll go with PAST IT'S PRIME. Mostly talk shows, rap artists and their BLING/BLING, and my FAVORITE-CRIBS! Gots to show all you low lifes, how I didn't need to finish High School, and what youse is LOOKING AT, youse PAID FOR DAT!! :moon:

Tru2Chevy 09-15-2007 06:52 PM

I still remember the glory days of MTV, but like others have said, I don't watch at all anymore unless they are playing old Real World episodes.....

Its funny, because IMHO I think the real world series was the beginning of the end for MTV and while yes the first few seasons were great to watch the real world types of shows took over the airwaves & spread like a virus that we now can't get rid of. Even the show Im watching right now the ultimate fighter on spike is a reality show

MTV realized they had a goldmine with the reality concept & ran with it to the point where they just never turned back.

Tru2Chevy 09-15-2007 07:18 PM

Yea, I'm with you Bill. I only really enjoyed the first few seasons of real world, but I occasionally watch newer ones. Shows like Singled Out were always funny too.

And you can never forget Beavis & Butthead, MTV's Oddities, and Aeon Flux.
