Poor dizzy dog is spending the night in the hospital
She was having breathing problems and I took her in to the vet which led to x-rays, fluid in the chest area so they needed to drain the fluid so they could really tell what's going on. She's almost 13 but had that vestibular disease this past fall which causes the loss of balance like an inner ear infection. Hopefully she'll be ok, but I don't have a good feeling about this.

Sorry to hear Jeff. I hope everything is ok with her....which vet do you use?

We go to West Trenton (usually Dr K.) but Dr. Marks looked at her and sent us over to the CARE facility in Langhorne where she's having the fluid drained so they can get some good x-rays or do an ultrasound.

Sorry to hear that, and I hope they can find out what it is and help her.
|
sorry to hear that jeff, i'm sure shes in the best hands.
btw, that pic of her leaning is adorable.. even though the story behind it is sad, the pictures so cute. |
The leaning picture was taken a couple of days after it first hit her. She could barely stand and had to lean against something. It's already weird not having her around the house tonight.

Have a beer for her Jeff.

I know exactly how you feel
She is in good hands |
That really sucks, hope she gets better. I cant imagine how you feel right now.

The last update we got late last night was that they drained 3 liters of fluid from her chest! They didn't see any sign of cancer as of that point in time but they need to do more x-rays and an ultrasound today. If there is no tumor then they need to figure out what caused the fluid problem.
|
Sorry to hear that. I hope everything turns out OK.

Hope everything turns out ok!

I hope everything comes out okay and she is home soon.

I hope that everything turns out ok and she comes home soon. I know that it must be very upsetting...they become apart of the family.

The latest update is that there is still no sign of any cancer or any tumors. They did some more x-rays and the fluid is not coming back as of now. The heart looks fine so they are ruling out heart disease. She had a fever yesterday but is back to normal now and on antibiotics. They are still stumped but she is doing much better. They need to do some more tests tomorrow but I'm getting the feeling that they won't figure it out. She may have been accumulating the fluid for a long, long time and something like the fever caused it to become more obvious. I said to put a drain plug in her and we'll bring her home and change the fluids every 6 months! She might be home tomorrow with no adverse effects. I think she needs to be put on the new Animal Mystery Diagnosis show so they can pay for some of it! So things look pretty good for now.

glad to hear she is doing better Jeff!

Well, the dizzy dog is back home but she's still not feeling well. They did a bunch of tests, x-rays, ultrasounds and still don't know what is causing the fluid buildup in her chest. She looks like a jigsaw puzzle now with all the areas of fur they had to shave for the tests. Her heart is fine, bloodwork is fine, no obvious signs of cancer or tumors. They want to do a ct scan and possibly surgery to try and find out the cause but we're already $$$ into this and there is no guarantee the scan or surgery will reveal the cause. We have to take her back Monday to have her fluid level checked but I don't think there's much we can do to make her more comfortable.
|
at her age I dont know if surgery is the best option.
|
She looks and feels like she's lost 10 lbs since last Friday. There's no way I would put her through any kind of surgery. She's not eating much so she's low on energy.
|
Aww...the poor girl.
I think keeping her comfortable and hoping for the best is about all you can do now Jeff. Even if money wasn't an issue, with her age and no guarantee (or even real hope it sounds like) of finding a cause/cure, I would most likely skip surgery too. - Justin |
We had her put down tonight. She wasn't doing well and she wasn't eating and had lost 10 lbs. No reason to make it any worse. to Sammy!
|
Awww.. I am sorry to hear. I am sure it was a very hard decision to make but for the better in her case. :(
 to Sammy. |
