nightshading
I'm VHT nightshading my tail lights tomorrow and I wanted to know if I were to do 5-6 Stages of spraying and Blacking out my tails would my braking light appearance be horrible in the daylight. I've heard of stories that during the day blacked out tails show very little brake light.
i haven't gotten hit yet, but i guess if the sun is really bright and glaring, you wouldn't see it.
uhh i did 2 light coats on my DD and there pretty dark. i did 3 coats on my 88 and there pitch black! 5-6 would be insane
my friend oversprayed the one. So only one of his brakes lights would show. He has and is a ricer though. Should look good if you do it right.

um i just do one super tin coat of regular black body paint and wet sand the **** out of it...then clear and wet sand again
do they make like hyper white bulbs or led bulbs for your brake lights? i had those on my civic for turn signals and they would blind me...they would work well if they were nightshaded over..
yeah, I want my tail lights to be blacked out besides the reverse lights (the white section) . So would LEDs be a good conversion ?
if you do that, i'm telling you right now its going to look like crap....the lenses are colored from the inside and VHT goes on the outside....theres going to be an ugly ass line across it

I put one coat of vht on my and left the white part stock, looks great. Don’t VHT everything, might as well just buy the covers. The stock red was to bright IMO. One coat made it less intense, a shade of burgundy. I wish I had a pic.
And the onything wrong with the pic Justin posted is the fact that they didnt VHT the third brake light. Little things like that piss me off |
yeah i hate when owners of f bodys who nightshade their tails leave their 3rd brake light stock.

yeah looks gay. just go light and it will be darker than you think.
What looks stupid? Having LEDs on nightshaded tails

i also dont know about leds, i hear they require more (or maybe less...i dont know) electricity so they tend to blink alot faster than stock. but thats what i hear, google it. |
red third brake light. they make led bulbs that fit like stock, would help alot but i rock regular bulbs and they seem fine to me. never know though
well yesterday I separated the housing from the lenses and resealed them with RTV Clear Silicone . came out without too much hassle, not worth taking the risk of chipping the lenses, that's for sure.
Okay I just finished nightshading my lights. I didn't spray the white reverse lights and I did 6 VERY VERY THIN coats. Looks phenomenal
sweet lets see it
I'm going to take pics of it later.
during the day it reflects red. but when its in the shade its pretty black. I'm thinking I should make it darker, but I'll see how it is for a day and if I'm not satisfied i'll just go all out. |
LEDs run cool, no worries about heat with them. However you'll need to get a resistor to run inline, otherwise they will act like you have a light out, since LEDs provide less resistance than stock incandescent.
Also, don't buy the first little cheap LEDs you find. Do a search here, there are others who have switched to quality LEDs and have info posted up about it. - Justin |
alright thanks. also, If I feel like nightshading my tails even darker. would I be able to go over it.
Yes, but I would test with lights before going darker. Much cheaper than having to go back and buy new taillights because yours are almost black now.

well I guess it looked darker before, it's way to light, I'm going to have to make it darker , can i just nightshade over the light clear coats i put
