i would get rid of my magnaflow for a gmmg if i had the cash

V 08-08-2008 08:57 PM

too bad most of the cars they showed it on and had the sound weren't stock to begin with... eh its not bad, but i am happy with what i got.

deadtrend1 08-08-2008 08:59 PM

Im sold!

but your right Paul. Most were long tubed catless cars. And a couple with large cams

chrisfrom nj 08-08-2008 09:29 PM

sounds great

Jersyboyy 08-08-2008 10:21 PM

The blue ss towards the end from Jersey made we want this exhaust! I replayed that section close to 6 times! THAT EXHAUST ROCKS

SteveR 08-08-2008 10:25 PM

Their systems sound really good. I first heard them on the BlackBirds that came with them. If I got another 4th gen it would get that exhaust.

edpontiac91 08-08-2008 10:56 PM

It sounds fantastic, but don't forget, that was with a cammed, slammed, tubed LS1. It's gonna sound AWESOME! They say if fits 1982 to 2002. I will bet ANYONE that if you put that system on an L98 1992 350, or even an LT1, it's NOT gonna sound like that. My 1991 has had 3 different exhaust systems on it, starting with the SLP(2 pipes coming out of one side)too quiet at idle. Next was a Pacesetter that still was not great at idle and at full throttle. Last is the BORLA that took quite a bit of time to tune with the adjustable open hole spacers on the passenger side. It sounds good at idle and at full throttle. Now my engine only has bolt on performance, such as Edlebrock TES headers and gutted cats, but no way in hell can I get it to sound(as GREAT) like a STOCK LS1 with an aftermarket exhaust. When I was putting on the Edlebrock headers, before I welded them in, I fired up the car with the pipes open. It just sounded LOUD, but NOT in a racy way. A hot cam makes a HUGE difference in the way an exhaust system BARKS, but NO exhaust system is going to make a STOCK L98 or an LT1 sound like an LS1.

V 08-09-2008 12:40 AM

in one part they said 600 cars they built had it installed and the caption said 600hp cars... well, what was it

69RSZ 08-09-2008 07:47 AM

When I had the phase 1 package done my ss still had the stock LS1 cam and exhaust manifolds and cats from the factory and it still made a big difference and sounded really nice. They can also make it so you can use your center mount exhaust tips also.I wouldnt hesitate to buy one if I didnt have it.GMMG made over 600 cars AND 600HP 427 cars.

91DropTop 08-09-2008 08:15 AM

i think they should of put more cat back only cars in the video so the majority that will get it can hear hat it will sound like, not everyone is driving a cammed 427 with a full exhaust...i have slp long tubes, high flow cats and y pipe and a borla cat back, and love how it sounds.

JL8Jeff 08-09-2008 09:39 AM

I had the system on my 2000SS with stock manifolds and cats and it sounds good but nothing close to those cars in the video. It really needs high flow cats at a minimum to open up the sound. I just couldn't justify the cost so I sold the setup. But for a stainless exhaust it's definitely worth it compared to the other stainless setups.

SteveR 08-09-2008 09:45 AM

Somewhere there used to be clips of the stock Blackbirds with the GMMG exhaust on them on the site. Not sure if they're still there, I havent checked in a while.

ar0ck 08-09-2008 09:46 AM

I would take one in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

BonzoHansen 08-09-2008 09:49 AM

they mean 600hp cars. Gmmg didnt make more than 100 total cars or something like that. They are saying 600hp to show you that this is a catback that can handle 600hp and you dont have to do a true dual setup when you are making that kind of power.

What is the difference between the sound of the SLP Loudmouth and this system? They both seem to be chambered pipes without a muffler!

GMMG made all the berger SS camaros for three years totaling over 100,all the Earnhardt intimidator cars, all the hot rod magazine cars, all the blackbird WS6 cars, all the 02 ZL1 cars, all the 35th anniversary performance edition cars, all the Dick Harrel cars, all the Tom Henry cars for Tom Henry chevrolet.Im sure all the cars total over 600 cars. Also cars modified for private owners that were not included in the limited edition programs.

The loudmouth is very raspy and tinny. It's a lot more high pitched than the GMMG. The GMMG is i bit more throaty and aggressive without being overly loud.

Rich189 08-12-2008 09:38 AM

I have a very similar setup from stainless works on my ws6 and love it... for my third gen im going to be making Lt's into a custom x pipe with 2 chambered mufflers and dump it before the rear. So we will see how that turns out.

The GMMG uses an actual chambered pipe setup (similar to the setup that was available on some 1st gen cars) and the LM is just straight pipe with a resonator in line. Not a huge difference, but the sound is definitely different.

edpontiac91 08-13-2008 09:18 PM

Does ANYONE have a sound vid of a 3rd Gen with a STOCK 350. Seems like everybody has one of an LS1 with a WILD CAM, 4 Turbos, no Cats etc. They are going to sound AWESOME with those mods.
