What the Government wants you to drive

http://zilvia.net/f/off-topic-chat/2...ct-2009-a.html

A prius maybe? Not many other vehicles that don't fall on that list :lol:

What a bunch of idiots with nothing but time on their hands.

Edit: can anyone confirm this is a real bill?

Tsar 11-21-2008 07:01 PM

Can't be real. If it is, the sheer stupidity to even think to ban that many cars is astounding.

cdacda13 11-21-2008 07:02 PM

Checking...Checking...Checking
So far, Google has nothing. Congress' website is hard to navigate.(Think that's intentional?)

Off to Lexus Nexus
Wait a tick, its currently only the 110th Congress, not 115th. That Bill is a fake!

//<86TA>\\ 11-21-2008 07:15 PM

thats quite a list, no one in my fam,ily even owns a car that isnt on that list, i guess we would all be screwed:lol:
its wants to ban anything over 150 bhp? so whats left after that? a bicycle?

I dont see how this bill could ever go anywhere, the stupidity of some people in our government is appalling.

BonzoHansen 11-21-2008 07:28 PM

Phony based on the last comment "LULZ someone took her gun rights bill and changed some words around. Closing......."

Waxman just bullied his way to the head of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. That is not good. California is in charge. I hope SEMA lobbiests pay off well.

`(v) non-OEM wheels & tires;
(vi) Stickers, decals, artwork, or graphics such as are typically found on racing vehicles;
that one is awsome
that just killed every ricer out there

WildBillyT 11-21-2008 07:44 PM

There are many reasons why it's false.

If the gov't does anything I'd expect them to do an OEM horsepower cap at 400 or so to be legal in the US.

procamaroz28 11-21-2008 10:17 PM

It isn't far from the truth of whats going on behind the scenes whether this story is a hoax or not.

haha, forced induction.

has to be fake. it does look like something that an ignorant government official would type up because they definitally dont know what they were talking about. a spoiler? how the **** does that make your car a better street racer?

Fear Waxman & Pelosi....

jola 11-22-2008 09:38 PM

I like how it bans actual car makes and models and not a certain hp to weight ratio limit. I also like how it bans out of production cars like the Firebird. As long as politics are run by money a bill this comprehensive will never gain ground.

NJ Torque 11-22-2008 10:29 PM

I see Buick GN and GNX on that list...

BigAls87Z28 11-23-2008 04:46 AM

Not going to happen. But for teh most part, that is what is gunna happen by 2020 anyway. 35mpg CAFE scores for cars AND trucks will put a huge hurt on performance vehicles.

sweetbmxrider 11-23-2008 10:12 AM

:rofl: that is funny!

They will adapt, they can. Problem is the kalifornians in charge are gonna want to push that time table up.

Not only do they want to push it closer, but they want to raise it to 40.

Adapt? Evenutally we will see a phasing out of certain cars. 35-40mpg is gunna weed out everything.

BonzoHansen 11-23-2008 09:25 PM

Then more gas for my cars!!!

BigAls87Z28 11-23-2008 10:17 PM

Well, see...the problem is, that if you have cars that get better gas milage, studies have shown that people will just drive more, and not use less gas.
If you want to see people stop using gas and stop dependence on oil, hike the gas tax higher.
We all saw what happend when gas hit 4 bucks a gallon. That alone did more to change the automotive landscape in this country in 6 months then the goverment had tried to do for the last 25 years.

BonzoHansen 11-24-2008 08:15 AM

Yeah, well, that is why CAFE is a farce.

BigAls87Z28 11-24-2008 08:54 AM

Big Al's plan to action
Give Big 3 25b in Green Restructuring, and another in 25b in loans they have to pay back.
Raise gas tax to recover 25 billion in green bill
make the other 25b back with intrest.

Big 3 use 25b to make and bring green cars here faster, and the US helps out its manufacturing base to be more compeditive and build better cars for the enviroment. People beg for American green technology, the Big 3 rise back to the top again with innovation an technology, and America is powerful yet again.

Big Al in 2012.

Frosty 11-24-2008 09:28 AM

Raise the gas tax? Why? What's more important? Reduced oil consumption or a stronger economy? Shipping/transportation is a huge part of this country's economy.

I guess it depends on the price of fuel. At 1.75 adding $.50 is ok by me, at $4 it is not. You have to address fuel supply too. No more different mixtures by state (FU kalifornia), for instance.
