wisdom teeth
My surgeon says I'll be out for a week. I don't have a week. I can deal with pain, how long should I give myself before I can go back to work? All 4 need to be extracted and one of them is really deep in there.
|
I was fine right after I had mine pulled.
|
I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed at once. Had mine done on a Saturday...had softball practice that afternoon and a game on sunday. I didn't miss a thing and had 0 pain. I didn't even need to take any painkillers. I went to Dr Lavinio. He's in Staten Island but it's well worth the trip.
|
Had mine removed when I was 16. They gave me pain medication and I remember my mouth/jaw being sore for a few days but I've had worse pain from migraines. Would probably depend on your pain tolerance and how much they have to dig around to remove the teeth.
|
I had all four done at once, and returned work the next day. The day I had surgery I came home and was out of it for hours.
|
I was eating regular food that night, no pain or soreness. All 4 out at once.

New question:
What type of anesthesia did you guys do? He is suggesting Novocaine, gas, and IV. I think I can do without the IV. Thoughts? |
I did the IV

I got gassed cause I can't do needles, and then they slipped the needle in while I was looking away.

I had a few shots of novicane and was good to go.

I still can't, for the life of me, figure out why my oral surgeon kept insisting I would be out of commission for a week. What a clown.

It's annoying because I asked for the procedure to be done today, but he said no because I would definitely be out of commission for a week. Not worst case scenario, but definite. Oh well. Now I know not to listen to him next time.
And who knows, maybe mine is especially bad or I will take it poorly and be out of commission for a week. |
I had all four out at once and most were fairly deep but I was fine the next day, just had a day of soft foods. And I got the needle.

I guess you are right. I'll do it on a day I can give myself the following day off anyway. Thanks guys. |

The reason he wants you out of commission is because your blood tends to clot where the tooth/teeth were removed, and if it breaks loose, the clot can travel to your heart or brain. I had a tooth yanked, and with my physically-demanding job, he told me "absolutely, positively NO WORK for one week" because of this reason. Hopefully this clarifies it for you.

To your first question: I had all four removed and all of them were impacted. I had the surgery on a Thursday and was back at work on Monday (what they recommended I do). I didn't have any major pain the days I was out. But once I went back to work, the pain set in and it felt like I was hit in the face with a bat.
To your second question: They gave me everything. When I got home, I spent the rest of the day throwing up. Out of everything, that was the worst part for me. |
