GrandmasterCow 05-28-2010 02:55 PM

I failed for gas cap three days ago and they only gave me five days to fix it

baddest434 05-28-2010 03:11 PM

x3 on the failing for gas cap.

deadtrend1 05-28-2010 03:24 PM

they failed my dads 99 F150 because the gear indicator was on (N) when he had it in (D)

JL8Jeff 05-28-2010 03:32 PM

I've failed for the gas cap before and now I always go out and buy a new one before going through inspection. After I pass, I put the old one back on and keep the new one in the box until the next inspection. It's such a stupid thing to fail for. They should allow you to go to the back door with the new cap to test and pass it.

Whiplash Performance 05-28-2010 03:41 PM

I've never waited more then 10 minutes at the inspection station by me.
I got my 225,000 mile grand prix inspected this morning and it passed.

FlyingDutchman 05-28-2010 04:07 PM

You know if you go early in the morning say like 7am, you breeze right through. Just a thought...

this....

yes now that you passed the rest they will only check the cap and cant/wont look at anything else.

go buy a few caps and toss em in the shed

my friend who was supposed to weld the "cats" on kept putting it off, finally went to another friends' and we threw em on this morning. they told me I have to go through the whole line again, not just the re-inspection line. apparently because it's emissions related I have to start over or something, that's what it sounded like.

T69SS 05-28-2010 10:21 PM

Im not sure where you are located at, but the local state inspection by me (Rt. 38 Southampton) i have never waited more than 20 mins and i always pass. Might be worth the drive...

enRo 05-31-2010 08:59 PM

I sat in line for 90 minutes the other day with my truck, just to be told that I don't need an inspection because my vehicle is a diesel rated at 10,000 GVW. So if I get pulled over, I got the inspectors name, and a piece of paper they gave me that says Im excluded from NJ inspection. Wish it was that easy for my camaro

FASTEDDIE Z 05-31-2010 09:37 PM

My wife took my 99 suburban to NJ inspection on rt 70 lakewood .It failed because the hood didnt pop open . All you have to do is touch it after pulling the release ( typical chevy ). But that wasnt good enough . When my wife and kids pulled up to my house ,,the hood was open and flopping around . Im glad the safety catch works at 50mph !!
When she took it back they said " You failed for what ?? hmm " Ok and put a sticker on it WITHOUT even checking it again ! WTF ??

greenformula92 05-31-2010 09:38 PM

so then the things like half working horns won't fail anymore?

NastyEllEssWon 06-02-2010 02:27 AM

pretty much...out in cali they have no safety inspection, just bring it in for smog every 2 years, if you sell the car the smog certificate is still valid although if you sell a car that has no smog certificate many people will knock of the price of inspection in the sale of the car

greenformula92 06-02-2010 08:04 AM

i don't know about you guys but with all the people driving around the shore that are just plain scary drivers id like to know that at the very least thier brakes work because they passed inspection....its going to be so literally nothing works but your emissions are good so you pass. good for some....not so much for others.....i think you are going to see an increase in accidents among other things.....safety inspection i would think is important. i mean its a $9 brake line i have to replace, its just annoying to have to go back. at least i have another 45 days

for an average non mechanically inclined person that 9 dollar brake line will get marked up to 50 bucks with another 250 in labor on top of it. so they cant afford to put 300 into their 500 dollar beater. so what does the state do??? slap a sticker on their car that will get them a 180 dollar fine if they dont fix it. so now instead of being 300 in the hole theyre down 500 bucks for car that costs the same....in all honesty its a catch 22 and sucks....yes your brakes SHOULD be in top working condition...but who needs rear brakes anyway....a car will stop fine with fronts only...ive seen it!:nod:
