who here uses there cars in the winter?

im having a car delema right now due to my insurance going up. just wondering how you guys who drive your cars all year round handle the weather. obviously snow tires will be my next purchase if i go that route just curious as to how miserable it is. i really dont want to part with my camaro lol. any input on this would be great

option A - sell both and get a better/newer truck
option B - champ out with the camaro

redsoxsstink 06-29-2012 11:36 AM

i drive my car in the winter. it wasnt that bad but good tires make all the difference. having a stick makes it easyier, i would say get used to starting in second gear.

To clarify, you'd be keeping the SS regardless?

Option a: sell Yukon + Camaro for newer truck
Option b: sell Yukon + drive camaro year round

You have three vehicles listed in your sig Niko, not everyone knows you

BonzoHansen 06-29-2012 11:59 AM

alternate beater/daily driver FTW. Best thing I ever did as soon as I was able to do it.

sweetbmxrider 06-29-2012 12:11 PM

Your Yukon can't handle snow?

wrong generation 06-29-2012 12:11 PM

i drive my camaro all year long. if your going to own it you might as well drive it no matter what the weather is.

It could, but he'd be selling the Camaro then. OP mentioned insurance rates going up so only 2 vehicles will be kept, with the garage queen Silverado SS being one of them.

lmao the SS will always be around. talking about the yukon and yes you hit the nail on head with options A and B lol

edit : ive had the yukon for over 2 years it champed through every snow storm

Can you maybe take the camaro off the road for the winter, put it in storage and turn in the plates? Then in spring, around April 1st, take the yukon off insurance and drive camaro from then on.

maroman88 06-29-2012 12:17 PM

sell both, buy newer truck

BonzoHansen 06-29-2012 12:18 PM

that's a lot of late model toys

By me a 10 x 20 would run you in the ballpark of $1000.

lol i would but its loaded with furniture

i had my truck in a storage unit for 6 months over the winter. 200$ a month for a 10x25. insurance on the car is 90$ a month so it doesn't pay to rent a unit at all. better off leaving it on the insurance.

That's what I was thinking. Keep one toy and get an eco-beater.

Anti_Rice_Guy 06-29-2012 12:57 PM

I say custom option: Sell Camaro, Keep tahoe.

The Camaro's so mint I'd hate to see it see salt and rust. You already have one toy, and can get another camaro at a later date.

band77one 06-29-2012 01:51 PM

i use to just cancel the insurance on my iroc for a few months. I've never turned in plates on the iroc until i sold it.

ive thought of this as well. but id hate to see this car go to some punk whos gonna beat the snot out of it and ruin it

I don't get the love for a 2004 Silverado SS over a 2002 Z28, but to each their own!

You got garage space for the camaro & the SS?

1320B4U 06-29-2012 04:06 PM

How old are you and how much you paying for insurance? I have 5 cars, 1 in storage facility and 2 in garage plus wife and my daily drivers. Insurance isn't soo bad (but i have hagerty and njm) insured all year round. Maybe shop around for better insurance..you may be able to save a few hundred bucks and keep all.

because the SS will be a 11 sec truck this winter lol

i dont have a garage i live in an apartment lol. truck usually sits in the storage unit but i leave it outside under a cover when the weathers nice. the camaro is also covered. my cars are in my moms name for insurance reasons. im only listed as secondary on my GMC. now that i got this ticket it will be nearing 4000$ a year on its own. thats nuts which is why im being forced to ditch one of the toys
