Some pics of the shops latest project
This 280Z came in a few months ago for a full engine bay restoration as well as some upgraded brakes, new carpeting, short throw shifter, and a few. The engine was rebuilt with a larger cam and flat top pistons. And the brakes are now 4 piston calipers with slotted/drilled rotors.
Hoping to have it running before the end of the week. Waiting on a clear day so I can push it outside for the break in. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...20280Z/047.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...20280Z/053.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...20280Z/087.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...20280Z/205.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...0280Z/0382.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...0280Z/0352.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...0280Z/0332.jpg |

No LS1 swap?? What the lame!
 Looks amazing Paul! |
Believe it or not it was a rust free California car. And yeah I would like the exhaust hose ports but I have other equipment I want to buy first so instead I gotta push it outside.
Thanks for the compliments by the way. And there's a bunch of guys in the NJ Z Car club with LS1 and I think even LS2 swaps....very clean setups. |
it didnt look that bead before... but after
|
Wow, looks great!
|
looks new damn nice job
|
VERY IMPRESSIVE! Just goes to show what you can do with a couple of extra hundred bucks laying around.
|
looks amazing great job
|
Thanks...I'll have some completed pics in the next few days before I put the hood back on. Hoping I can start it up today and have no real issues. Just waiting on the short throw shifter that's been on back order since before Christmas!
|
Wow, that's coming out nice and clean. Is it going to have dual exhaust with those headers?
|
looks like a lot of new parts, was it restore parts or buy all new parts? whats a job like that cost?
came out great |
Jeff the exhaust basically goes right down into 1 pipe....and for now into a stock cat which is going to restrict it a bit.
The parts are pretty much all restored originals with the exception of the rubber parts. Every nut, bolt, bracket, clip, etc was blasted and then replated or polished and cleared. Price was in the 17k range including the engine rebuild and a number of other things like clutch, shifter, carpeting, steering wheel, and some more. |
Love the 2## series Z's, but as one of the above poster said, they love to rust. great job, did you guys do the zinc plating of the parts on the engine in-house, ro do you send it out to be plated?
|
These I took to a local plater. When my father and I built his 280 we did them in house....very time sensative to get them just right.
|
Well...didn't get it started today. First I found a bad ground that was causing the starter to crank as soon as I hooked up the battery. Cleaned the paint off my ground and that was fixed. But now the engine is making no oil pressure when I try to prime it. Pulled the filter and pressure sender and nothing coming out. May have to pull the oil pump tomorrow and try filling it with oil again since it's been so long since the engine shop assembled it.
|
Got the car running yesterday. Had to remove the oil pump and fill it with oil, reinstall, and it was enough to build up pressure finally. Luckilly the pump is external on these engines and very easy to get to.
Did the 20 minute break in and the oil and temp were perfect. The top end seems a little noisy...not sure if I'm hearing the forged pistons or if there's a loose lash pad. Will pull the valvecover on monday. Other than that just a few bugs to work out....oh and I need my shifter that's been on back order for 2 months! Can't wait to take this thing for a ride...it seems extremely rev happy with the flat tops and cam. |
Looks great!
