Custom dash setup? Using '88 GTA digital dash
My 1988 GTA has the factory digital dash. I love it. Mainly because thats what I had on my 1st real car when I was 17, so its more for the memories.
With that being said, lately I have started to think about doing a more custom setup. The build of the car is more "long term" so mods like this arent going to throw off the deadline or anything. I want to keep the dash looking like a stock digital dash, But I was thinking how i could update it with better displays behind the factory locations. I can't really think of a better solution for the rpm/battery/temp/oil gauges but I think I could find something better them as well as for the speedo and the driver information center. Perhaps a small tablet type thing incorporated behind the outer bezel? something maybe along those lines. I have just begun the search for options so I have nothing in mind yet and I don't know whats really out there. Anyone know of options for dash displays? or other digital displays that may work on smaller aftermarket screens I could install? Here is the factory dash setup... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...psl9n2ruhy.png http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...pswqjgdtmm.jpg EDIT: maybe something like this to replace the oil press/water/temp/voltmeter/... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...pse2ff7spa.jpg |
go for it paul it looks like a grate update

What is that cluster from Paul? If you can find parts to work along that theme it would look amazing.
Check with Dakota Digital as well. Don't know if they are still doing it but I know years ago they had a really good reputation for giving people a hand with gauge solutions. |
the small cluster is a stand alone unit. like 450 bucks or so. they don't have a speedo or tach as far as i could find. they have single setups or that multi style along with all types of senders/sensors. The company makes full oled clusters in custom designs but BIG money.
The units can have their own sensors, or pull info from OBDII which I'd do. if i can find speedo /tach similar to match id do it in a heartbeat. but if one gauge looks like that and any others are stock, it would just look bad. I did a quick photoshop... I am going to contact the company, send them the pic(or a better version of it) and see if they can provide what I need. I still don't like the center information center being the old style so that would most likely change or be something else. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...pshvdegaxb.png |
There are a lot of possibilities for the center stack, plenty of switches to make multi function as well. Would be fun if you could get the system panel to be a progressive shift light like sports and open wheel cars use.

android tablets with an OBD2 bluetooth adapter?

Whats the company that makes those gauges Paul? I can think of a few project cars that would benefit from something like that.

zada tech in the UK is the company. they make full display dashboards but those are 5,000lbs or like 7500 dollars. but their smaller stuff is pretty reasonable imo.

Gotta love the exchange rate. lol
That price certainly does limit the field. It is a good look. Is there any possible way for you to move/graft the 4 warning lights below what you are looking to use for the gauge opening on the right side? I think it would look a lot better, more symmetrical. |
