New toy showed up

It took a trip from Portland OR down to AZ and then here to NJ. I have a ZZ3 motor I'm getting ready to put in it and waiting for a Hamilton 772 jet drive to be shipped. It's a 1993 Jetcraft sprint boat.

Is that one of those boats they race on those tracks that are like man made channels? With the quick turning?

sweet rig, looks like it has seen some abuse and wouldn't mind taking more. what do you do with something like this if you dont plan on racing? seems purpose built
|
That is quite a ride! Have fun with it.

They have some serious speed on smooth water. The previous one I had was a 14' sprint boat with a crate 350 making around 225 hp and it would do 60-65 mph with a single impeller jet drive. It's pretty worthless in choppy water, you end up sucking air which is like hitting the brakes.

very cool!
enjoy that I've seen those things on TV too and they are thrilling to watch. |

Progress has been slow with the jet drive taking a month to get delivered and then I needed to replace one of the cutlass bearings and decided to put a stainless impeller in with more pitch. Figuring out the marine specific parts to get and then locating them is more of a challenge than I thought. I just found out my order for the Glenwood straight exhaust risers was backordered for at least 4-5 weeks so I cancelled that order. I finally got the jet drive installed and hopefully sealed up properly, then I was able to install the engine after figuring out which motor mounts to use. The driveshaft h-bar was 1-1/2" short so I had to move the motor back. I still need to figure out the exhaust, get the engine wired, hook up the cooling, route the fuel system and then hope it doesn't leak!

Got it fired up today at the river. I had to run it in the water with the new cutlass bearing in the jet drive. Jegs sent the wrong header muffler inserts so I'm waiting for the right ones and decided to fire it up with the open headers. It's loud!

I heard someone on the river around 4:30-5:30ish. Was that you?
|
Not today, yesterday I was at the ramp around that time. I never took the boat off the trailer, I was checking for any potential leaks and wanted to make sure water was pumping though properly.

Finally had a chance to remove the lettering and decals from the boat. That was fun, they've been on there a long time and took a bit of effort to remove.
