tint on windows

hey guys i have tinted windows does anyone know how to remove the tint and how much it would cost to have it removed??

jam01 02-03-2012 09:22 AM

it is a pia, razor blade and or scraper and time. you should be able to use window cleaner to get the glue off.

thats the only way? i dont want to mess up the window:-?

Anti_Rice_Guy 02-03-2012 09:46 AM

Take your time and you won't mess up the window. Use a very sharp blade with lots of window cleaner as a lubricant.

shadowfire 02-03-2012 09:56 AM

cool thanks guys

MyFirstZ 02-03-2012 10:10 AM

the lubricant (window cleaner) is very very important makes it so much easier

sweetbmxrider 02-03-2012 10:20 AM

sweetbmxrider 02-03-2012 10:39 AM

I got a ticket back in 04-05 for tints, haven't since.**** people!

shadowfire 02-03-2012 10:40 AM

hmm i guess ill wait till i get a one before i take it off

MyFirstZ 02-03-2012 11:05 AM

Leave it on then, I have only gotten one ticket when they were at 20%, the second "tint" ticket I got is because the officer didnt give me the ticket for speeding and just wrote me for the tint, when i went to get it approved that it was removed in my county, the officer said i should have just left it on when he was signing the paper.

i really think it would just be a big pain to take it off. it might look good, but i dont want to go though that problem, so i ll just wait till a cop tells me too

MyFirstZ 02-03-2012 11:24 AM

Thats what i did, i just did it twice lol

deadtrend1 02-03-2012 01:55 PM

Good question.

And rear glass tint is legal, BTW.

FlyingDutchman 02-03-2012 03:07 PM

I used new utility blades in a handy knife like this from a hardware store...

and sprayed straight ammonia as a lubricant/adhesive remover. I had excellent results. As stated, do not attempt on the rear hatch b/c of the defroster lines running back and forth plus the tint in the rear is legal and helps keep the car cooler in the summer.

leave them on. i have 5% on everything i drive. sometimes having illegal tints is a good thing, ive been written for tint twice, when both times i should have gotten a lot bigger of a ticket

mine is in the front wind shield driver side... will they stop me for that?

1320B4U 02-06-2012 12:57 PM

^ yes, they can cite you for it. It needs to be displayed on the front portion of the vehicle. I have mine under the seat in the camaro and the birds....man i don't know where that plate is come to think about it. Got hassled 1 time for the plate by a female cop though....and cited 4x's by the mahwah cops for it about a decade ago...weird.

When I first got my TA in the summer I had my plates there and got a ticket for unclear plates, although that's not what I got pulled over for.
