3rd & 4th gen prices

What's going on with the price of the 3rd gen and early 4th gen prices?! I've been hunting for an OBD 1 LT1 M6 pre-emissions car and can't find one for a normal price. I figured the market would settle down in the winter but it isn't. It's at the point I can buy an LS1 cheaper than I can buy an Iroc or an LT1.

Two years ago I could have picked up a decent LT1 for 3 grand or a 3rd gen for 2g.

good paint and interior, ready to drive ones the prics hold up. Non running and clapped out ones arent worth crap.

DirtyBird 12-27-2016 03:34 PM

Decently nice m6 lt1 5k to 6k

zraffz 12-27-2016 03:39 PM

I just don't get it. I'm not looking for a flawless car but all the six speed cars are the price of the LS1 cars.

I've owned a few, I'm aware how the market was for these cars. I want an lt1 due to the NJ inspection rules that were passed last summer.

I'm seeing cars with dents and blown rears for $3500+... That's crazy enough without considering its the off season for these cars.

chknhwk01 12-27-2016 05:52 PM

is this better???

ls motors.......... well run aw:ay from the lt"s mid range and top end.
thats my opinion. if you are looking for speed..

Thanks for contributing :bertstare:

I'd obviously never pay 5 or 6 grand for an LT1 when I could buy an LS1 right around there. I just bought a house so I haven't been watching the fbody market for the past year but now I'm ready to buy one and I am shocked at the prices.

He's not sure yet, he forgets already.

DirtyBird 12-28-2016 08:50 AM

I hope the ls' would run away from lt's. 15 degree heads, better flowing intake, etc. Just an all around better motor except there tug boat sound

JL8Jeff 12-28-2016 09:26 AM

I've been looking for a clean Camaro for a couple of years and all of them are overpriced. The 2nd gen cars are almost worst than the 1st gens at this point. Clean 3rd gens are priced a little crazy as well. 4th gens are all over the place but there are more overpriced clapped out cars showing up all the time. 6cyl engine swap might be the cheapest way to get a clean car.

MDSheds_SS 12-28-2016 10:03 AM

I know of a M6 2000 SS with 19k miles lightly modded if anyone is in search of one.

zraffz 12-28-2016 11:22 AM

Well it looks like I won't be buying one any time soon if the prices are going to stay this crazy... I can't bring myself to spending that much for an LT1.

Got to find word of mouth deals. Generally everything on Craigslist, auto trader etc seems to be high. Another good place suprisingly is sale pages on Facebook. Seen plenty of good deals on there

sweetbmxrider 12-28-2016 04:51 PM

Why not a clean a4 and swap an m6 later? So easy and don't pay the silly premium

eric-86sc 12-28-2016 05:55 PM

I think the problem with that is a t56 swap will run you 1-1500 easily. Might as well pay a little more up front for an m6 to start

Wow a reasonably priced LT1 on Craigslist! I really don't want to swap a T56 into a car although it wouldn't be a bad option so I can at least put in a descent clutch... The year range I'm looking for too (94/95). Probably easier to find a car that wasn't whooped by some punk kid being an auto too.

I'm sure if I could snag it for $2500 I could do a trans and descent clutch for $4500 total... But I feel like I can find a t56 for that price without all the extra work.

sweetbmxrider 12-28-2016 08:03 PM

T56 cars come at a premium. It'll be a tough find to get something under $5k that is clean and well kept. I usually look here and there for cars just to snag the trans. They aren't in surplus as they once were.....

Is a $200 rear really keeping you from this car?

ar0ck 12-28-2016 08:40 PM

I'll gladly sell mine. The car just needs someone with the time. A great base project!

I think Scott said it once, but when a car goes up on stands, and doesn't make it down in a reasonable amount of time, its just a lost project.

I saw it. I have Tuner CATS and didn't think it worked on 93 due to the chip.

Wonder how many miles are on it, pretty good price for the car. Looks like cloth interior though

zraffz 12-29-2016 04:24 PM

I saw that this morning. Very interested and I'm going to try and make time to see it this weekend
